It’s just field positioning, not coverage type. That has no bearing on him. Safeties responsibility’s are the same in man or zone coverage, 3-4 or 4-3 Defense. They are the most interchangeable position on Defense.

Not only that but Riveras scheme doesn't demand too much from S's that why we have who the fug are they's at the position and keep it as a very low priority. Rivera knows he can put anyone there.

Most Hurney slammers have been Hurney slammers since before they even knew who Gman was, so you're still wrong.

Pretty much.

Let's be real. Nobody wants the team to fail. Nobody wants these kids to fail either. And nobody hates Marty. By all accounts he's a nice guy.

My former brother in law is a nice guy too. Everybody likes him, including me. But knowing what I know about him, I wouldn't put him in charge of running a football team. Heck, I wouldn't put him in charge of running a lemonade stand.

The issue is trust.

Three winning seasons out of eleven doesn't earn you a whole lot of cred. And no, pointing to isolated successes like "oh, he drafted this guy" or "he signed that guy" or whatever doesn't change the big picture.

The reality is that for the (extended) period when Hurney was in control before, we lost way more than we won. And there is no possible spin anybody could come up with that can turn that into a positive.

Everybody wants a winning season and success for the kids drafted. It'd be silly not to.

But given the history under Hurney, nobody should be blamed for not expecting it.

We wasted a second round pick on a slot corner when we have 2 other guys who play slot already on the roster ahead of him. He's undersized both height wise and weight wise, and we are in a division with Mike Evans, Julio Jones, and Michael Thomas, and our solution is a 5'10" 178lb feather.

Then we got some tweener who doesn't have a true position in the secondary because Hurney loves to draft converts in the 3rd.

Day 2 screams vintage Hurney to me.

I give it a D just because they technically drafted positions of need, but there were far better prospects available at the time.

We had 4 nickels already

Nothing against Hurney but would love it if the new owner replaced Hurney ASAP.

the day 2 of the draft was classic Hurney, any good will I may have been feeling on his return has completely left me...

We got two SEC DBs in the range they were ranked with the intention of one being our safety and the other playing slot and outside CB. I really don’t get the overreacting going on...

And we care about sec why?

I think it's very possible he gets replaced even if we have a good season this year.

The league wants the stench of Richardson to go away. And fair or not, that likely includes people closely associated with him.

Just shows they put up their numbers against top competition. Some small school players numbers can be misleading because they were playing against lesser talents. Big 10 would work too for having talented offenses and defenses.

this team desperately needed two starters today and we got none.

Good teams get starters in the 3rd. But were back in 2007 where Hurndog sees it as the time to start experimenting with combine tweeners.

Uhh do you want to do a quick examination of Gettleman’s selections after the second round?

Carolina Panthers: D.J. Moore, WR, Maryland A Grade
I imagine there will be some publications who think D.J. Moore was taken too early, or that Calvin Ridley should have been the pick, but I can tell you this: One team in the teens had Moore as its No. 2 option. Moore could have gone about 8-12 selections earlier than this, so I think this is great value.

Carolina Panthers: Donte Jackson, CB, LSU A+ Grade
Wow, Donte Jackson is another player I forgot was on the board. Some people in the media had Jackson in the first round, but teams said they had high second-round grades on him. Jackson slipped a bit, so the Panthers are lucky to pick him up. Jackson, quite possibly the best slot cornerback in this class, will provide a big upgrade for Carolina's pedestrian secondary.

Carolina Panthers: Rashaan Gaulden, CB/S, Tennessee A Grade
Rashaan Gaulden is a very versatile player who should be able to help the Panthers' atrocious secondary in some regard. I love the idea of picking Tennessee prospects because Butch Jones was such a horrible coach that he didn't get anything out of his players. Gaulden is a second-round talent.

On top of the two day 2  picks, the Panthers picked up the first pick in the 4th and a 5th round pick. I really believe there is value in trading down in return for more picks. Player evaluation has a fairly high margin for error and the more picks that you have, the better. This may be especially true in the later rounds of the draft. Perhaps it is time to take a couple of risks.

I usually am completely disappointed and underwhelmed by the Panthers on draft day. This year I am EXTREMELY happy with the current results. I hope the Panthers finish strong. I never bought into the Gettleman hog mollie nonsense and was EXTREMELY skeptical of the "take two" version of Hurney.

So far it really appears that Hurney really did self-evaluate and reorient his thinking. Now, please finish strong!

Everything I have heard or read about these guys says they'll have an impact on this team.

They are players of need.  Those of you whining about not getting the player YOU think we should have drafted need to take a chill pill and get onboard with those that are paid to make these picks.

I can't wait till 1/2 of you eat crow when these guys turn out to be good.

I'll reserve my plate if they aren't but as of now it is still collecting cobwebs.

We have no clue if these two dudes will work out...none.

However, it is fair, for those of us who have been around for a while to question Hurney and his very odd selections after the 1st round.  For whatever reason, Hurney absolutely loves conversion players.  Not sure why, but he does, especially in the 2nd and 3rd.

Would prefer to hope for a TD like experiment, and not pay attention to the rest of the failed converts.

I'll never forget shaking my head at the TV after hearing the name Amini Silatolu.
