I was willing to overlook and give Jackson a shot because of his speed, but that last pick with the project safety is inexcusable.  I'm not even saying to draft Ronnie Harrison if you don't feel comfortable with him, but why draft a project guy this early on?  It's stupid to say the least.

Remind everyone for the record....

Just how good is Hurney's track record when he drafts someone to switch positions?

must be an eternity ago that our depth rotted from the inside out while hurney was getting cute drafting all these tweeners at skill positions and in the secondary every year

either that or everybody here was born yesterday

It's honestly funny as fug man that he comes up in here after hitting a good RD 1 and is actually just the same retard he always has been. poo is seriously pretty funny.

So funny that our next pick probably is LB/RB if not multiple of either.

he somehow managed to stay put at 24 and was rewarded with his pick of whatever WR he wanted. so he picks the guy with better measurables and more upside. ok great. then he has a true safety that would probably start day one and hold his own fall in his lap and he reverts back to the same idiotic habits that destroyed us in 2010.

but everybody told me it’s not the old hurney, it’s hurney 2.0! can’t wait to hear these dummies keep complaining about the old guard when we start 1-4.

I wanted other picks tonight but instead of bitching about who we didn't get I am trying to understand the philosophy we are using to make our picks. To assume we don't have a clue and are making bad picks is frankly naive. You have to see what we are doing. We don't need starters tonight. We need guys who can contribute and grow into the position. We just drafted our replacement for Mike Adams and Captain Munnerlyn. This year they will contribute and learn behind the vets. Eventually this season or next they will become starters. Frankly if you have a bunch of rookies starting you are in big trouble like we were in 2016.

Disappointed.

Gave him a C, but it’s probably a D day. Our secondary still lacks the ability to make the big play or create turnovers. We know Bradberry isn’t good at it, and we added a guy in Jackson who has terrible ball skills.

Man, I swear we should’ve not only let Norman play under the tag, but should’ve found a way to lock him up long term. When this next batch of secondary players don’t work out, we’ll be drafting another 2 to 3 DBs in 2020.

this team desperately needed two starters today and we got none.

Good teams get starters in the 3rd. But were back in 2007 where Hurndog sees it as the time to start experimenting with combine tweeners.

This is why I said we can't depend on the draft and fugtard sat around. Enjoy 6-10 and house cleaning for new ownership boys

we came away with an undersized corner and a DB we’re going to convert to safety

yep, sounds like marty’s drafting again

To everybody condoning Marty Hurney, you are fools and possibly yet understandingly comprehend that you don't know football. The guy drafted and traded for every star we have now besides a couple. Most GMs would have went with Von Miller over Cam Newton to be safe, Wouldn't drafted Luke because of having a 3 time pro bowler already in Brandon, Charles Johnson in the third round, ryan Khalil in the second, Stewart, Williams, Josh Norman in the Fifth, and so on. If theirs one thing Hurney can do, it's draft football players. That's his best forte. Smh. Hurney biggest flaw was staying loyal and signing contracts that would put the panthers in cap hell. But even then, they were coming out of a lockout season with so many key players free agents. Also, Donte Jackson is 5-10 180? So what?!? His measurable are identical to Denzel Ward who went 4th OVERALL!!!! So much potential and filled a need. The Gaulden pick was a good one too. Needed safety help bad. He has a knack for break ups and physical at the line of scrimmage.they needed youth in the secondary, speed in the secondary, and youth in the secondary. All three players should be day 1 starters. This team is loaded if healthy. With Curtis Samuel Olsen DJ Moore CMC Torry Smith Funchess and the underrated signing of Jarius Wright. This team is stacked on defense and offense. Getting rid of Shula was the greatest thing to happen to Cam Newtons career. Gauentee he throws for at least 4000 25 TD's this year. If these rookies come in a contribute even on average, this team is one to be reckoned with. D line is STACKED, Linebacker is Stacked, secondary should be much improved. The only concern I have is health and the o line. Which is why they traded the third rounder. Panthers mostly need depth now. More bodies. Let's Go Man!!!

Here's what you don't understand. Everyone here is a draft expert. McShay and Kiper didn't have Jackson and Gaulden rated that high so Hurney is stupid. Everyone on this board have put in countless hours of scouting.

Most of you are insufferable. You don't know poo. You've watched like 6 highlight tapes and you think you're an NFL scout. You're not.

I'm not defending Marty. I paid close attention to Wr's this year bc that's the position I wanted the most. My guy was DJ and I'm happy we chose him. If we would've chosen Ridley, Sutton or Kirk I wouldn't have lost my mind bc we'll need to wait and see.

Point is, none of us are professional scouts and even professional scouts don't get it right. If they did, more than 50% of their draft picks would hit.

Nobody knows poo but everyone likes to act like they do. Let it play out. Football is the greatest game in the world. Most of you should try enjoying it for a change.

Would've preferred getting one of those nice interior o-lineman, but the board just didn't fall that way (and I actually find it encouraging that Hurney was willing to stay in his slot). That being considered, I really like that we got two players with tudes. One that matches up well with all the speedy receivers in the division, and the other to make sure Colin Jones never starts another game in the NFL.  Didn't really love the trade-down, but there's still a few players available that I like for pick 101, so it wasn't a disaster.

Consider me reasonably pleased and cautiously optimistic.

Draft picks: Maryland WR D.J. Moore(No. 24 overall), LSU CB Donte Jackson (No. 55 overall), Tennessee DB Rashaan Gaulden (No. 85 overall).
Day 1 grade: A
Day 2 grade: A
Overall grade: A
The skinny: Moore was the best receiver in the draft. He's fast, quick, elusive, and tough. Get him the ball and let him go. Cam Newton needs more weapons, and now he's got a very good one. Jackson is a sticky corner who has no fear. If he wasn't so slight, he might have gone sooner. Despite his frame, he's willing to mix it up with any receiver. The Panthers got a good one to replace Daryl Worley in Gaulden, who is a physical defensive back that went in the correct part of the draft. The Panthers can play him at safety, corner, or nickel.
