Division Rivals 1st Picks

honestly I think the Bucs and Saints made great moves. Vita is a Star type DT, not gonna rush the passer, but do everything you ask him to do and never get the credit. It was well worth it for the Bucs to pick up 2 additional 2nd round picks.

The Saints did nail last year and could risk it. Davenport is a freak. I am just curious if they grab a qb in the 2nd round now.

I hate the Falcons and adding Ridley they are the same team. That said, I think we are the same team with Moore.

Unhappy to see the Bucs pick, happy to see the Saints ship out their first next year and just meh about Ridley to the Falcons.

Watch for reactionary picks here on day 2 of the draft though.  2 DL and 2 WR picked by the NFC South so if you had a need it just got exacerbated.

I am not worried about Vita Vea (see, Silatolu, Amini).  Nor does Davenport scare me a little bit (see Kalil, Ryan).  Ridley?  please (see Bradberry, James).

My point: Their first rounders could influence our second round selection.

If our center is having to block their defensive end, we may have problems. But knowing how Matt Kalil has done, this may not be so far-fetched.

I'll list them as the OROY, the DROY, and 2 other All Rookie players.

Look at redrafts. Saints have 4 first rounders in most of them.

This time in 2015, a lot of redrafts of 2014 had Bene Benwikere and Tre Boston as first rounders.  Kony Ealy looked like the real thing as well.  I think Lattimore and Kamara are legit, but don't get cocky about the other two just yet.

I honestly can't figure out what the Saints are thinking.  Davenport is loaded with potential, but they're not going to see it develop in 2018.  He could team with Jordan to make things ugly for opposing teams maybe as early as 2019, but this looks like a Vernon Butler type of pick, and it cost them next year's first.  Brees is 39, they could use another DT to pair with Rankins, and it wouldn't hurt them to upgrade at TE.

Bucs got better.  That was a great pick for them.

Ridley is going to look like a vet and will be one of the best #2 WRs around pretty quickly.  He's in a great spot to shine.  With that said, there's enough offensive talent on that roster that an average Free Agent WR would look good as well.  So I think the Falcons also got better, but not much.

I don't think the Saints gave up what they did if they feel like he's the project that everyone is expecting. The Saints obviously feel highly about him contributing right away. Time will tell if they're right. He's got a great bull rush and rip move already.

not like it's easy to find 6'6 DEs that run a 4.5

Saints: Got better but also got worse at the same time. They are going all in his season, and will provide some tough games. But they've done it at a great cost by giving up a future #1 for Davenport. Even.

Bucs: Got much better, traded down for a good DT and got more picks. They had a large hill to climb to contention but they are making the right moves. Up.

Falcons: They lost Gabriel and picked up Ridley, probably an improvement but now they will try to fill weaknesses with late round talent, when they didn't need another WR. You've got to think WR cuts are in line at some point. Even.

So far I have us and the Bucs grading the best in our division.

He measures almost identical to Chubb. Chubb is more refined. Gonna have some coaching to do.

That's the point I was making in my earlier post.  This is a pick for 2019, when teams usually want a starter out of their firsts nowadays.  That's why it was a surprise, particularly given what they gave up.  It's like Loomis was saying, "Take my pick this year for a great shot at a bookend for Jordan next year."  I know these guys know more about football and scouting than we do, but stuff like this is hard for me to figure out.

I'm not entirely sure they're conceding the year, but we'll see. I would think they believe he can contribute from Day 1. I know they're building the defense for after Drew, but trying to win with him as well. I'd be surprised if they took him purely on future production.

I'm don't love the draft capital given up, however.

That’s like saying we don’t need a guard because we signed Sirles. Fusco is terrible. But if people here want to scare themselves into thinking they now have something they didn’t already have in Julio then hey fine I guess. I think they will really miss Poe.

What an awful comparison. According to PFF

Jeremiah Sirles - 45.2 rating (#48 G)

Brandon Fusco - 76.0 rating (#21 G)

SF fans mentioned he was one of their best OL and wanted to resign him. So in reality he’s an upgrade at RG on an already good OL.

And not sure why having more than one good receiver is a bad thing. Also Falcons will be fine with out Poe. If they were going to lose any starting DL I’m glad it’s him.

Pff. Okay.

SF fans hated their OL apart from their RT.

I didn’t say having Ridley was bad. Don’t put words in my mouth. Quote me. He’s good but AF have bigger needs imo.

Your last 2 sentences contradict each other.

Falcons definitely needed a WR with Gabriel gone. G wasn’t even a big need after Brandon Fusco was signed from SF to start at RG. Falcons will probably get a DT in round 2 to put next to Grady.

Falcons didn't need another WR at this point because they have 3 capable WR's already that can do the job. There is no definitely a need for another WR at all. If another WR is wanted to be added it could have been after all much more needed line holes were filled before that first.
