How the hell is he supposed to be able to start when he has a top 5 UT ahead of him?

Butler’s great as a rotational piece and helping keep a fresh tough D-line. He’s no bust just because we have a clear top 5 DT playing ahead of him.

And we didn't have a top 5 UT before Butler was drafted?

Nothing has changed. He is still another of Gettleman's wasted picks. Same as Shaq.

Face it. Gettleman screwed us.

The interior of our d-line was not amazing last season and it won't be this season either. Amazing is getting interior pressure on Brees. They didn't even get close. Not good. I think KK is not worth his contract, but seeing Butler (with weak lower body strength) must give KK confidence he'll be around long term.

Panthers aren't trading him for anything but a 1st. So if they value having him over the offered we'd never know. He's great depth and good rotation. Not butlers fault he was drafted as insurance and not able to play over a top 5 DT.

Lots of people forget that Butler gave the Panthers a better bargaining position than without him when it came to those DT contracts.

One reason Greg Olsen figures he can negotiate is there are no heir apparents on the team.

That's one reason I'd draft a TE and OT/G type in the first four picks. Head off the Daryl contract and Olsen.

Sometimes the word bust is unfair to the player but better suited to the decision to select that player.

The disappointment is driven by the high and maybe unwarranted expectation on a first round draft pick and the disappointing performance of the team post Superb Owl.  Knowing now the injuries we've had on OL we might have drafted  an OT like Taylor Decker.  Knowing the performance of our rookies corners, we might have kept Norman.   2016 draft was not Gettleman at his best.

That all said, I think Butler is going to shine at some point.  We just need some patience.

It'll be pretty hard to "breakout" when he'll likely not crack 40% in def snaps.

Man, if you are complaining about our DT depth you just don't get it.  We are fuggin great there and yes, I think he could be great especially getting rest with that awesome rotation.
