What Do You Think About Steve Comments

Everyone is still using the same formula that SEA did to us in the Playoffs. They shutdown Smith and our run and dared Jake to use someone else..... We have never figured out a way to beat that Formula.

Truly sad, isn't it?

Especially when (in my humble opinion) we now have receivers with far more talent than Colbert and Carter.

It's really sad, no doubt. At least with Drew Carter you had a chance of a deep ball opposite of Smith. Now, not so much.

You people bitch cause Jake always throws to smith and now you bitch cause he doesn't throw him the ball as much.

wow some of you just stfu

here's the problem. he throws to smith and looks for him too often. everyone knows that he is going to do that so they just keep him covered up. if jake started spreading it around more to others more consistently they couldn't afford to cover up smith.

right now they know that all they have to do is watch jake and keep smith covered up. jake will spread the ball around to others but it is only in desperation.

another problem....jake is throwing poorly. defenses know exactly what he is going to be doing.

today they even knew exactly when they were going to be getting rosario involved and they shut him down as well.

I predicted 2 years ago that Smith wasn't going to take this lying down.

He isn't happy, and has not been for some time for this very reason.

It's like wasting a fine wine, and that is exactly what is happening to him here in Carolina as bad as I hate to say it. The writing has been on the wall for quite a while now.

Jake's friendship aside, this has the makings of turning ugly unless there are some DRASTIC changes made....and soon.

All Smith needs to do is take a look at Randy Moss, who came back from the dead (Oakland), putting up a buck-29 and three TD's today. Imagine what he could do with a first class QB throwing the ball down-range.

trade peppers for a single #1 pick, and go get one of the many talented QB's in next years draft. the tide has changed in the NFL and rookie QB's with a strong running game can develop while playing instead of sitting behind another QB for 2-4 years.

I don't know what to make of it, just post game frustration or is he really done with this team?

I just don't want us to lose Smith, IMO its pretty obvious we are going to atleast have a new QB under center next season, and its very likely a new coach.

It amazes me how little many of you actually understand about the Panthers and how this organization operates. Jake Delhomme WILL be our QB for at least one more year and John Fox, no matter what, isnt going anywhere. New QB....new coach.........all wishful thinking. Sorry guys.

Fox and Jake's busted arm are running the talent out of Charlotte.

seriously if steve smith leaves i am:

1. going to cry myself to sleep

2. burn his panther jersey jimmy hendrix style (we must sacrafice the things we love)

3. head into the bomb shelter and wait 5 years for the nuclear fall out to clear in charlotte

Most of Jake INT is coming from throwing to Steve... so he is throwing him the ball Proudiddy

And yes Smith is a little older and needs to take care of his body rather than doing somersaults in the air like when he was younger. That happens, and thats life

But Jake has messed up the rotation for everybody. I didn't see anybody saying anything when Smith squeezed that catch tween Landry and that linebacker last week. Had Landry looking like wtf, he caught it

I can't speak for Proudiddy but for me, I wasn't in any form not apprechicating Smith's talent. That catch last week was a thing of beauty.

However, with the comment made about this game, Smith's remarks were misguided and like many others have said probably came out of frustration. But while it may have sounded like frustration with Delhomme/Davidson/the Team itself, I think it truely came from frustration with himself.

Smith is a whiny little bitch. His team won the game and he's pouting. He makes more than just about anybody on the team. The coach knows what he's capable of. His team won the game. And yes, the TEAM is capable of winning without him once in awhile.

Every win there are players on the team who may not have stats for the day but they are part of the win. And they make rookie minimums and are happy just to be on the team and do whatever they can to contribute to the win. Smith doesn't get stats and he wants to whine. There's a reason why he doesn't talk to the media more than he does, and it's because more of these kinds of comments would come out.

It seems every time we turn the ball over is when Jake is trying to force the ball to Smith....Smith should play some wildcat/pr/kr/st whatever to get the ball more to him...Smith spoke out of frustration and once he sees the tape he will have a different tune.

I remember during the 07 season when Testeverti came in two days prior and beat the Cardnials, Smith went to him pregame and told him, "Don't worry about over throwing me. No quarterback can overthrow me."

Is there blame to go around to Delhomme? Of course and he's deserves alot of it. But Smith has lost something as well. If I'm correct, Delhomme has thrown 11 INTs so far and 8 of those were targeted towards Smith. And if you go back to the Oakland game last year that so many point to as a horrible game for Delhomme, you will also see how badly Smith got abused that day in one on one coverage with the Raiders secondary.

Smith is still a good player and one of my favorites all time but I think a lot of fans are allowing his reputation in past years overshadow his current onfield play.

Good post mountain, you're right. Jake has blown ass a lot this year. But as I said, each player is responsible for themselves. Jake has sucked at times, but Smitty has as well.

Like I said, he's not breaking away from the pack once he gets the ball this year. He's tipped well-thrown balls up in the air for INTs, broken off routes, and looked like he was half-stepping on a lot of plays. He can cry all he wants, but would you want to throw it to a guy that isn't even fighting to get the ball when you throw towards him?

He just doesn't look the same. As you said, they used to always joke "you can;t overthrow Steve Smith..."

Well, if that WAS the case, it's not anymore. I told my friend during the game today, he's not the same. Jake's throw was far from perfect, but the old Smitty would've ran underneath those deep balls and gotten a TD... He's not right.

I agree with all these posts. There's something different, lost with Steve. IMO it started last year with his 2 game suspension where we won without him. I can't guess what it is; I just hate to see it. Maybe his daughter will help him reset his perspective, I hope so. Not that Jake is right either. :o

TB simply looked at our 2 latest most effective passing threats, Smitty & Rosario, and took them out of the game. That's tape the rest of the NFL will want to see. Fortunately, they fell flat with trying to stop Williams & Stewart. That last drive was over 8 minutes of pure brilliance. And Smitty's blocking, btw, was a big part of it.

But my new hero may just be Jeff King. :D

You people bitch cause Jake always throws to smith and now you bitch cause he doesn't throw him the ball as much.

This is just too funny. True but funny. Davidson/Fox finally have a game where they do almost exactly what you've wanted them to do (put Jarret in, run more, put the RB's out wide, etc) and still you bitch because Smitty is bitching. Didn't you realize that when you were asking for these things that time would be taken away from other things? There's only 60 minutes of game time. :cornut:

Psssst...he wasn't being serious. 89 has been overthrown every season he's been in the league. It's not impossible when you have such a horrible passer like Delhomme.
