it all has to do with the fact that the coaching staff doesn't have confidence in jake anymore. Years past, Jake used to just heave the ball up to smitty and Smitty 9 times out of 10 would make the play and bailed out delhomme many times. Now Delhomme is under a lot of pressure b/c that's just not working anymore. Jake is scared to throw interceptions now, and that's why he refuses to throw risky passes to smitty

This obviously shows that this year is a wash anyway. If you ask me, from most of the replays shown, Smitty was bracketed by two defenders, and was hardly ever open. If he was open, it was about 1/10 of a sec and then he was covered again. Not much we could do to get him the ball when he's not open.

When Jake tried to force it to him, it was intercepted as usual.

I don't think Smitty is the same player. He doesn't look the same even when he has the ball in his hands.

His attitude shows that it's time for change here anyway. If he's feeling like this now, it's not about the team anymore, everyone is worried about themselves. I understand how he feels, but when a player expresses this, it means there's more trouble than just "i'm not involved." This team is done, as is.

We are squeaking by poo teams, even if we beat the Bills (with their 2nd QB), and become 3-3 we still suck and are garbage. This team is a joke.

Don't kid yourselves into thinking this year is going to be something, because it isn't.

Everyone is still using the same formula that SEA did to us in the Playoffs. They shutdown Smith and our run and dared Jake to use someone else..... We have never figured out a way to beat that Formula.

Is there blame to go around to Delhomme? Of course and he's deserves alot of it. But Smith has lost something as well. If I'm correct, Delhomme has thrown 11 INTs so far and 8 of those were targeted towards Smith. And if you go back to the Oakland game last year that so many point to as a horrible game for Delhomme, you will also see how badly Smith got abused that day in one on one coverage with the Raiders secondary.

Smith is still a good player and one of my favorites all time but I think a lot of fans are allowing his reputation in past years overshadow his current onfield play.

He did pretty well in that Green Bay game a few weeks later. Also, don't forget the Saints last year where he bailed Delhomme out on a horrible throw at the end to win the division.

Smith will still make the plays if given the chance. Unfortunately, Jake and the other receivers are just so ineffective that Smith isn't really going to get that chance. What happened today was Davidson driving the offense with a manual gearshift. He took the game out of Delhomme's hands and essentially denied Smith the ball. If he hadn't done that, we would be 1-4 right now.

Good post mountain, you're right. Jake has blown ass a lot this year. But as I said, each player is responsible for themselves. Jake has sucked at times, but Smitty has as well.

Like I said, he's not breaking away from the pack once he gets the ball this year. He's tipped well-thrown balls up in the air for INTs, broken off routes, and looked like he was half-stepping on a lot of plays. He can cry all he wants, but would you want to throw it to a guy that isn't even fighting to get the ball when you throw towards him?

He just doesn't look the same. As you said, they used to always joke "you can;t overthrow Steve Smith..."

Well, if that WAS the case, it's not anymore. I told my friend during the game today, he's not the same. Jake's throw was far from perfect, but the old Smitty would've ran underneath those deep balls and gotten a TD... He's not right.

And yes Smith is a little older and needs to take care of his body rather than doing somersaults in the air like when he was younger. That happens, and thats life

But Jake has messed up the rotation for everybody. I didn't see anybody saying anything when Smith squeezed that catch tween Landry and that linebacker last week. Had Landry looking like wtf, he caught it
