Maybe I'm mistaken but we are a defensive team with a defensive minded head coach.. We aren't supposed to win shootouts with offensive teams with offensive minded head coach.. The fact we were in that game is due to Cam and the offense.. Philosophy wise the defense let us down...

You’re right. The defense was able to stop the run but we didn’t have enough defensively to stop Brees and the air attack. I get it that we need offensive help but we also need it on defense too.

I agree, that for all practical purposes, Hurney is on a one draft audition with a new owner coming in.  I'm just not sure how that will influence it.

He could be really aggressive and try to hit some home runs, this include picks for current players and/or trading up during the draft.  Depending on who the new owner is though that could be his downfall.  What if the new guys tends to be more analytical or conservative.

My best guess is he falls somewhere in the middle.  I think he is going to look for some players that can contribute really early, even if that means passing on players that might have more value long term.  This is why I could really see a Hurst/Chubb combo in the first two rounds.  Both players could contribute a good bit next year.  RBs seem to have less of a learning curve than most postions, also Hurst seems the most ready of the TEs.  Unless Ridley or maybe Moore falls to us I could see Hurst actually getting more snaps his first year than most of the other WRs we could draft.

This is pure speculation on my part but I could see the coaches, especially Ron and Norv having more influence on this draft than they did with DG.

Drafting Hurst would be a bit like when we drafted CMC, I think coaches get excited when they think a player can add a dimension to their offense.  Maybe drafting Hurst lets us run more 2 TE sets, or improves our running game.  I'm not saying it the right move, just might be how some people think.

Seems to me that we will pick up a running back and WR but I don't think it will be WR early in the draft. Last year our defense failed us more than the offense and that was without Olsen and lots of losses in the WR corps.  I think we  are going DB or TE in the first.  Unless one of the top WRs drops to us or there is an early run on corners.

I go back and forth, but we have average WRs--a roster full.  If we need someone to change the dynamic, it is going to be an early WR---

Having said that, I am not that impressed with the WRs at the top of the draft.

We have to address both S spots, if you ask me.  I am not sure Searcy is the answer, and I think we have to assume Cox hits the wall at some point.

On the WR front, lets say all of them hit  their ceiling; EQ St Brown is a near perfect Norv fit.

Penny is very LTish and Gesicki is the ideal TE.

We could haul all of them and still get a DB r1

EQ will go in 3rd round most likely.(depending if someone falls in love with his potential)

Penny is a early to mid second rounder, Panthers might have to trade up for him seeing his stock is hot. Gesicki could be a 3rd to 5th rounder.

The problem is if you need immediate wide receiver help most times the draft isn't where you find it. Now if you are building for the future then that is exactly where you look. Depends with all the uncertainty if we are in win now mode or looking at the long term picture. I suspect it is win now sobImlean toward an immediate starter which is more likely at running back or DB versus wide receiver.
