The Pick: OT Mike McGlinchey, Notre Dame

This may be more of what I think the Carolina Panthers will do than what they will actually decide in late April, but so much is unknown with former general manager Marty Hurney returning to his old post. Will Hurney look at Matt Kalil at left tackle and make a first-round move to replace him?

If so, Notre Dame's Mike McGlinchey is a plug-and-play starter. For many teams I'd pencil McGlinchey in as a right tackle, but the Panthers' run game would fit a powerful left tackle in a way similar to what the Jacksonville Jaguars did with Cam Robinson in 2017. McGlinchey doesn't have great production against speed-rushers in pass protection in college, but with Cam Newton behind him, he doesn't have to be perfect for five seconds on every rush.

So many options at Pick 24 for the Panthers. I could see Justin Reid or Ronnie Harrison at this pick. Passing on a CB like Josh Jackson would be an incredibly tough thing to do as well.. The bottom line that brings me to this selection is that Cam Newton deserves the help. The Panthers brought in Norv Turner to bring this offense to life, and Norv appears to love him some D.J. Moore. Pick 24 may be a tad high for Moore; however, the Panthers have worked him out privately, and he won't be there at Pick 55. Watch his highlights and you'll see Moore makes more people miss than the guy running the tin-can-shooting game at the carnival. That is why the Panthers want him. 

Moore improved in all three of his seasons at Maryland. In 2017, he made 80 receptions for 1,033 yards and eight touchdowns. Add him to a WR group that includes Devin Funchess and Torrey Smith, and Cam Newton will finally have the toys that he deserves. I see Moore as the most likely pick in RD1. This would be excellent value, giving the Panthers a starting outside corner after free-agent signee Bashaud Breeland failed his physical and the deal was voided. There are quietly a lot of holes on this roster, especially when you start thinking about 2019, but this would fill a big one right now.
