My one and only mock draft

Jeremy Igo

NFL comp: Doug Baldwin. NFL Network's Steve Smith implied that Anthony Miller's approach to the game reminded the long-time star receiver of himself, calling Miller one of his "favorite prospects coming into the combine." It's against my personal code to compare a prospect to the ultra-rare No. 89, but it's hard not to trust the source here.

Here's mine

1- Josh Jackson CB Iowa

Analysis: Ball Hawk CB with great size. CB talent is tough to find outside of round 1. Go back and look at recent picks at 24, CB is a popular choice here.

Other options: DJ Moore (almost certainly won't be available), Harold Landry (ditto), Derwin James (double ditto)

2- Jessie Bates S Wake Forest

Analysis: http://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/nfl/carolina-panthers/article209337229.html

Other options: Frank Ragnow, Haden Hurst, Justin Reid, Sam Hubbard, Josh Sweat

3,1- Anthony Miller WR Memphis

Analysis: Dude is a baller and is compared favorably to Antonio Brown. I will take that all day. Also Hurney is going to see Steve Smith in this kid and we all know Hurney is desperate to find the next Smitty. I would not be surprised at all if we take him in the second or trade up in the third to get him.

Other options: it's the third round, who the hell knows who's going to be avaible at this point, but Ronnie Harrison, James Washington, Damon Webb, Chad Thomas

3,2- Duke Ejiofor DE Wake Forest

Analysis: really feel like we have to get a DE at some point in the draft. This draft is not top heavy with DE talent. But I feel like we could get a solid rotational player in the third here. Hey we might even draft the next CJ.

Also I want to be on record saying that I feel like it is a VERY real possibility we trade down with the Browns, Colts or a QB needy team trying to move back up in the first.

Acquiring another third and possibly another second rounder would be monumental in replacing the talent and depth problems we currently have.

I like Oliver a lot but do want a corner in the first and tight end in the second. I like Hurst and think he will be a pro from day one given his age and experiences. I don't see his age as a big deterrent given he isn't high mileage with lots of wear and tear.

I was thinking about a scenario where Browns might trade up to Panther's spot for their 2 early 2nd rounders .

Has Hurney ever had a habit of trading back though? Seems like G-man would trade up a lot , but never back for more picks.

Hurney was definitely known for trading (up much more than back) but I really do believe (and I'm a huge critic) that Hurney has learned a lot from his first go around and that he is wiser about our assets.

Now that could be wishful thinking on my part, but I really feel like unless a stud CB or fallen star is there, Hurney will trade back. There are just too many round 2 prospects we seem to like

I’m not sold that he can carry the load as a runner yet but we sure as hell better be trying it. Use him like the Steelers us Bell as a focal point in the run game and the pass game. If he can’t handle it (I’m optimistic he can) then we can tone it down a bit and still keep him active in the pass game and a smaller role in the run game.

As far as CAP goes we do need a bruiser for goal line and short yardage situations. McC is capable of that but not ideal. Better to have a power back for that and CAP is the closest thing we’ve got right now. I still anticipate us drafting a HB on day 3.

Agree.  I hope CAP can take a bigger role but  I want a Thumper short yardage back on day 3 for goal line and to runout games

Bo Scarborough- 5th

Darrell Williams 6th rd- my favorite

Jordan Wilkins- 7th

Here is how I see it playing out in rounds 1-3...

TLDR

CB - Hughes

TE - Hurst

S - Bates

WR - Miller

Man, I don't see how Hughes is on this team's radar considering his past:

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/04/20/mike-hughes-telling-teams-about-sexual-assault-accusation-at-north-carolina/

Granted, he was ultimately not charged with anything. However, I have a hard time seeing this team picking someone that had these specific accusations thrown against him after the Richardson ordeal. If he's picked, you can bet he'll be asked about this accusation non stop from the worst sports paper in the country in the Observer. In today's society, if he says the wrong answer, it'll open a firestorm.
