I was really hoping it would be Tottenham playing at BoA

That’s 2nd time in 5 years Liverpool comes to Charlotte.  Liverpool game against Milan was 100% European experience with sold out game and insane fan base singing songs during match.  It felt like I was watching EPL match in England.

Unlikely. These exhibition matches are frequently conducted at walking pace with little or no tempo. The few first team players that participate are petrified of getting injured.

Soccer is a terrible sport. If your analysis is correct it makes me dislike it even more.

I've seen a Mexico international @ BoA and the atmosphere was unparalleled for a sporting event in Charlotte.

I love soccer, and am still really frustrated our city didn't do more to get in on the most recent round of MLS expansion. If we don't get in @ the next, and maybe last expansion for a long time, we'll look like fools and regret it down the road imo.

(I'm a big Everton supporter, btw. Sigh.)

Sometimes the atmosphere makes the game, especially for people who aren’t really invested in the sport. Mexican fans bring great energy and enthusiasm.

Agreed. ‘Soccer’ is a fantastically accessible sport to all shapes and sizes. It’s one of the reasons it has spread around the world. A franchise in Charlotte would be awesome for the city.

That’s cool you should be proud of it. It’s the easiest thing in the world to support a winning team. My team is in league one and I doubt anyone on this website has heard of them.

Oh, I'm proud to be a Toffee! I'm just disappointed at the direction of some things, both within the team and the EPL in general. I've been a fan for years and years, and am happy to ride the highs and lows, though.  And I'm sure I've heard of your team. ;) Soccer is my #1 sport (well, neck and neck with baseball depending on my mood.) As much as I love the NFL, I could never love it quite as much as those two sports.

Yeah I assumed that was the criteria you were using to come to that conclusion. In your defense many people would agree. It’s just sad for me because I followed English football before the premier League. In those days the league was competitive because you couldn’t buy success. Clearly that’s changed and the national team is absolutely pathetic these days because of it. I’m glad that people still enjoy the product but it’s not for me anymore.

did you forget about based Leicester city?

60 plus minutes of folks kicking a ball around and running at half speed for a final score of 1-0. <snooze> I'll pass.

I was actually pretty happy USA didn’t qualify for WC. Won’t be forced to watch or talk about soccer.

That’s fair. What Leicester did was unprecedented in context of how 5 big teams have dominated the league for the last 20 years.

However without taking too much away from that achievement, their spending power was also massive in comparison to clubs outside the premier league due to TV rights. It compared favorably to every club except the top 5 in England and the very best in Spain Italy, France, Germany and Spain. Nearly all of their players were internationals. Raineri had won the league with Chelsea. As I’m sure you’re aware that year was the exception not the rule.

Once they had won it there was no chance they would sustain it because the system was stacked against them.
