Westworld Season 2

A few more thoughts. I know I tend to ramble somewhat in this thread but hey, were all playing multiplayer notepad here.

An additional consideration over @PanthersBigD's comment above in regards to immortality in the form of digitized content, it was revealed the construct of that possibility was ruled a complete failure as far as we know. I did comment earlier in this thread in regards to immortality but I'm not sure as to how or if, that will come to fruition. I'm guessing the harvesting of human DNA.

I still wonder why William and Ford seem to have a hatred for each other. Or it seems so with their intense rivalry. Were they friends before, allies with a common cause that possibly deteriorated over a struggle with a different goal?

It seems to be that William is looking for perfection. We saw that in regards to James Delos being fried 149 times over a period of many, many years . Ford wanted to make the perfect AI, and through William, has his harshest critic to tell him he can't quite get there.

I think that originally, Ford felt he had found a rich rube in Logan, that would blindly finance his research and development as long as he was given hot robots to screw and kill. Once William came along and had his epiphany about a business use for mining the guest experience data, it was too late for Ford to take his toys and go home, as Delos already owned the parks. Now he's stuck with a giant, secret focus group study instead of being able to run things the way he wants, so he went underground with it.

Was the attempt to create immortality in the form of digitized content really a complete failure?  When William walked out of the holding room the tech asked why he did that as James was stable.  Something William did when meeting with him triggered destabilization.  Was it the drink he gave him?  William never drank with him and James started to glitch after drinking it.

Interesting thought. However even on that final iteration, his hand was shaking slightly when he poured the creamer, before he drank anything. He still wasn't perfect, and frustrating him shouldn't have been able to make him malfunction like that if he was truly ready to resume living as Delos in public.

Man, I do love this series!  Just finished the last episode last night.

Does anyone know what "Game" William and Ford are playing?

I think it has something to do with the different directions Delos wanted to go (life to robots) versus Ford's desire (artificial life).

I also loved the last line "Hi dad."  This is going to be an entertaining end of the season!

To a place hidden from God.

Old William referred to it as a cognitive plateau and said that their most successful run had been 35 days. The destabilization was possibly introduced by finding out his wife was dead, his daughter Juliette killed herself, his son Logan overdosed and there was no one left for him. Therefore his mind rejects reality.

Now, after having said all of that. It could also be after years of being in power William fell in love with the position and power he no longer felt the desire to fulfill his duties to James Delos. He can't let him out now there is too much at stake.

All just theories following.

I'm not sure how honest William was being with James to how close they were to getting it right.  Timeline wise, it seemed to be right before he set off on his mission to find a deeper game in the park where death means something.  He seemed like he knew he was on a suicide mission and the project would be gone afterwards anyways.  I'm also wondering if maybe this project was kept away from William's wife.  Her finding out about what her dead father is going through and the betrayal of her husband doing all this behind her back helped pushed her to suicide.  Maybe it is what helped push William over the edge and deciding fug it all.  However Ford knew about the project and was able to have Bernard pocket a human to host brain sphere before Bernard executed order 66.  Ford may have perfected the process in his own secret lab seen in season 1 with the mysterious host body laying that was never revealed.  Maybe he needed the human host brain from the lab William knew about to be taken back to his own lab to finish the process.  Some point later we may see Bernard finishing the host seen on the table with what he pocketed this last episode.

This feels like tinfoil hat territory.

I’m starting to think that the whole thing is a simulation. Just the topography of the landscapes, Beaches, mountains, valleys, open plains, deserts, snowcapped mountains in samurai world. These features couldn’t possibly exist so close to each other.

It’s VR

Shogun World gave some interesting twists. Maeve is now a Jedi. She might be the only one actually aware. But then again, none of them may be actually aware and everyone is just playing their part still. But then what would be the big deal for this last story with William? Just that they will actually kill you now?

I like Maeve and William's story lines so far.  Delores story line has been disappointing.  She went from a strong character the first season to waiting for the the scenes to cut to the other characters this season.  Her decision to change Teddy makes her out to be the villain for both hosts and humans instead of just a threat to humanity.

Maeve gaining the ability that Ford showed in the first season is interesting.  She pretty much now the ruler of Delos theme parks. It also brings up how did Ford control the hosts at his residence with his mind.  I can see Maeve doing it by being connected wireless to the network.  Some how unlocking administrative access and able to send out a signal to hosts around her without using voice commands.  How did Ford do it in season 1 being a human unless he has been a host as well this whole time.

She is running her program.  I am sure of it.

Ford set up her narrative and she is playing it out.

I am definitely questioning her awaken state. Even if that is the case, she has been a let down this season so far for me.  Maybe it's just that her character was so wonderfully written and acted in season 1 that season 2 Delores didn't have a chance to be as great.
