Westworld Season 2

Evan Rachel Wood has tweeted out that Delores has been sentient since last seasons finale.  Whether that was to throw off viewers or not, idk.

Edit:  I actually couldn't find the tweet anymore.  Maybe I was mistaken or she deleted it.

I need to rewatch this last episode. I don't understand why she isn't treating the other hosts like an Army of the dead. Maybe I missed something but I was left with that question.

It's in her programming.

She is building a new world and trying to rid it of evil.  What I i found wierd is the 2 biggest armies in the western world are wiped.

Leads to the idea that it is all part of the program. That the participant have to find their own way.

No I mean killing them and then bringing them back to life and them then joining her Army because they now understand. Like she did with the initial small group. That seems a very effective way to deal with hosts that aren't on board.

I really get the feeling that Maeve is the only one truly sentient.    I think most of the others are playing their part.    I think Maeve was playing her part until that moment she made a choice to go after the daughter.    I think her purpose was to get on that train and enter the world.

Of course we're all probably wrong.

William is the only real person. ironic since he was the mad robot in the original movie...

I LOVE this show, but now that the major goal of Delos was to basically create a version of the 'stacks' from Altered Carbon, it really doesn't seem that new and inventive. I know everything is a copy or nod at something, but with the Netflix series so recently released, the premise feels a little stale.

Having seen Altered Carbon I didn't get that vibe at all. In fact, we don't know much of anything as this point. However, this episode did answer a lot of question, I feel.

I was drawn back to season one when Abernathy started to malfunction when he saw the modern picture at times square. He started malfunctioning and it made me wonder if James Delos is in there with ALL of the data he is carrying around. Maybe Delos conscious surfaced somewhat? We don't really know but I am sure there are all kinds of nefarious things Delos (company) could do with that type of information.

Bernard said to Elsie; "Elsie...i'm not here with you am I?" He seems to be suffering from memory slippage which also takes me  back to the very first episode of this season. The very first line in episode one was by Bernard. Something to the affect; I'm sorry I got lost in thought.

Maybe it's possible the first era of hosts had already had some form of consciousness. Also wondering why the railroad tracks were being built the wrong way.

I felt like this episode might of been the best of the series.  I did find it odd that so much was revealed in one episode this early in the season though.  Hopefully there are some good plot twists coming up.

I do like the "replay" value of this series.  Not many shows do I feel like rewatching past episodes to find more clues about what is going on in current episodes.

So you don't think that immortality in the form of digitized consciousness was one of the goals of Delos Corp? I think those red control units are copies of someone's consciousness. I'm also curious as to whether the one that Bernard pocketed was Ford's consciousness. If he had actually pulled it off where William and Co. had failed, the ultimate test/fug you to William would be to allow himself to be killed by his awakening robots, only to be resurrected by one of them later in the form of an android.

I guess the more I think about it, the questions on Altered Carbon were more about what humans would do with immortality, while Westworld is more about whether or not consciousness is a trait unique to living things, and whether it can be replicated in a lab.

Its also a topic that the westworld squeal futureworld flirted around with back in 1976.

Delos was cloning humans as robots in that movie.  Westworld I think is digging a little deeper and updating that concept.

I do, yeah. However, I think that is only one possible aspect of it and I'm not yet willing to accept that as a full stop plot line. The true purpose of the park has three variations of it I think, depending on who's point of view you consider. is it original Bernard, Ford's, or Williams?

    • A male lion will beat a tiger even though the tiger will have 1/3 more body weight. Male Lions' fight to kill, tigers won't fight.  A male lion will never stop coming, a tiger will quit immediately.  Male Lions exist only to kill.  Tigers are hunters.    Male Lions are absolutely relentless.   Do a deep dive on lions vs. tigers - look specifically for comments by animal trainers from the early 20th century. A lion vs. a bear?  That's a good question.   Bears don't have an off switch either - and they have more natural defenses.  I'd take a grizzly or polar but I don't know about a standard black bear.
