With Worley done, the 2016 draft looks like one of our worst ever

So much talent was drafted right after our picks in that draft. Both Henrys and Ogbah in the first, Byard and Ngakoue in the second, and to trade up in the third and not take Kendall Fuller wtf?

Everyone mentioned are players people on this board were begging for pre-draft.

Ogbah was the guy I wanted in the 1st that year.

DG do a damned good job with what he had to work with when he got here. Then when he’d dig out of Hurney’s hole he proceeded to dig himself a new one.. he was good at what he did but he was bad at what he couldn’t...

can’t thank him enough for Mitchell, Ginn, Coleman & Norwell, but he can eat a dick for Smith, Norman & the current mess he left...

2 years in too early to say. And we actually do still have Sanchez though he's of course sucked so far.

Actually it’s not. The front office along with the fans expect top picks to perform right away. Heck look at CMC. He had a very solid rookie year but it still wasn’t enough for a lot of people.

If you drafted a stud, you’ll know 90% of the time in the first year. Top picks  who take 2-3 years to come on can end up being nice players (tedd ginn)  but usually theyre never anything special

PICK PLAYER POS HT WT COLLEGE GRADEquestion-mark.png WATCH
  Round 1, Pick 31 (30) Vernon Butler DT 6'4" 323 Louisiana Tech 6.1
Pick Analysis: "With Butler, think Linval Joseph, think Michael Brockers. This is a big, power guy, and the Panthers love these type of players. He runs to the ball, and you can't teach that." -- Mike Mayock
  Round 2, Pick 31 (62) James Bradberry CB 6'1" 211 Samford 5.3
Pick Analysis: "He is an intriguing developmental corner. There was a buzz about this kid when I got to the East-West Shrine Game. He's long and has quick movement skills, but he's raw." -- Mike Mayock
Round 3, Pick 14 (77) (From Browns through Eagles through Lions) Daryl Worley CB 6'1" 204 West Virginia 5.3
Pick Analysis: "He doesn't have the ideal speed that you're looking for, but has outstanding ball skills. This is the kind of corner you want to have because he can play high above the rim." -- Daniel Jeremiah
  Round 5, Pick 2 (141) (From Browns) Zack Sanchez CB 5'11" 185 Oklahoma 5.5
Pick Analysis: Sanchez is accustomed facing opponents that like to air it out, and it will be more of the same when he faces his NFC South opponents. He has great ball skills and plays with the temperament to see the field in nickel packages. --Mark Dulgerian
  Round 7, Pick 31 (252) Beau Sandland TE 6'4" 253 Montana St. 5.3
Pick Analysis: A former Miami Hurricane, Sandland is a raw athlete with intriguing ball skills and that catch radius that Cam likes. --Mark Dulgerian

Never been a fan of GMan’s drafts. Still pissed we traded up for Worley and not Fuller. Hell, I wanted Fuller in the 2nd over Bradberry. We could have been sitting pretty with Hunter Henry/Derrick Henry and Landon Collins too. Shoulda coulda woulda.

coulda probably still got Bradberry if he wanted him...

No it's not. Not this early at least we shouldn't have the majority of a draft doing literally nothing for us. Sure after some time only a few become studs but the others should be good contributers. Not a first and second round picks being contributers and the others busts.

If you look at the numbers of draft picks that survive more than a couple of years in the NFL, then yes, it is.  Less than 50% of defensive backs drafted in the second round become consistent starters.  Bradberry has already beaten that, regardless of why it happened.  For that matter, so had Worley before his most recent screwupg.  Butler is still an unknown.

Fans here, and probably other places, then to have tunnel vision when looking at drafts.  Very few teams keep over half their draft picks more than four years.  In that regard, we are about average.

NE got less than 12 starts from its entire 2016 draft class combined.  And two of them were due to brady being out.  Bradberry alone beats that.

McC was the 8th overall pick. That pick is more than twice as valuable as pick 31 (where Butler was taken). Dumb example. Butler has been injured and even when healthy hasn't had much of an opportunity at all. He may not get it here with KK and Poe healthy but it's way too early to call him a bust. I wouldn't be surprised if we traded him on draft day and he made a pro bowl elsewhere.

NE, despite their success, really is not a good drafting team. Outside of 2012 with Jones and Hightower, they've drafted many busts without many hits in later rounds either. Their success is due much more to cherry picking FAs that fit their scheme cost effectively and having the best coaching and team specific game planning in the league. It would be admirable if Belichick weren't a cheater.

The only two left on the roster are Bradberry and Butler. Butler has done next to nothing, and Bradberry is... fine. Worley was never that good, Sanchez is on the practice squad, and Sandland never played a down for us.

This is just after two years and it's this bad. Butler might be gone in a year or two, and Bradberry isn't even a given for being a long-term starter either.

Zack "Dirty" Sanchez is still on the roster.  Anyway, Gettleman set himself up for this atrocious draft by rescinding the tag on Josh Norman.

Gman was forced to reach for 3 CB's and that was the end of that.

that draft was awful

Making absurd extreme statements doesn't do a debate angle ant good.
