Justin Reid To Visit The Panthers Tomorrow

Reid isn’t exceptional at anything but he’s very good across the board. In this way he is a very safe bet. The other thing is safety is a cerebral position and like CMC the Stanford background suggests this is a strength. Every other safety prospect has an area of weakness-for example Bates is fantastic in coverage but weak against the run. Derwin had a poor year but is an athletic freak.

His combine performance was great but when you watch him play he looks pretty average. Nothing really special stands out.

I came around to this too. Nothing really pops out to say he will be one of the best in the league one day but nothing saying he will be bad either.

Well that means he can only get better. If he is raw and he isnt that bad, Im assuming that he could have a high ceiling.

There’s only 23 players actually selected before us and there could be 4 to 6 QBs. There will absolutely be some guys of value there. That’s part of the reason I don’t want to trade down. Too many people have assumed everyone is going to be gone. Also, I really hope we don’t have 3-5 players ranked similarly. I’d hope we’ve done enough vetting that we have clear favorites for 24 and they are guys we don’t want to risk slipping. Contrary to popular belief, there aren’t buckets of guys who are all the same value when you look back at the draft. There are always clear cut better players and I hope we are doing work to find those guys. I think there’s probably more guys closer in potential from 35 to 55 than 24 to 35. I think 24 could be a real stud because of the potential of a glut of QBs being drafted. If the “6” happens, we’ll get a really good player.

I get what you're saying, but the value of the player should fit a need for us, we really won't know til we're on the clock

True, at 24 we don’t really know for sure. Unless a QB drops I can’t really foresee us wanting to trade back and another team wanting to trade up. The QBs are the key to our draft. We want as many to go early as possible.

I'm really hoping we get a call from the raiders haha they sit at 9 I believe in the second and have holes all over their defense

Jessie Bates is very realistic and probably the most likely S for us. Reid will go in between our first and second.

I watched Bates quite a bit the last year, my name should tell you why.  I like him a lot as a player, and I feel he has a future in the NFL.  I am just not sure he is ready yet.  But if we draft him, and we give him a year or two, he might be worth it.

Fwiw, he is a pretty good returner as well, so he could help on special teams.

I don’t know. That’d be a big drop. We have holes all over our secondary too.

Haha I absolutely agree there, I just don't see any day 1 starters at potentially 24 and would think it'd be better for the team too move back, but every draft has curve balls, maybe we can land someone that can start right away, or maybe we get a trade offer that blows the doors open.fingers crossed, but the only thing I don't wanna see is Hurney trading up, or back into first, thats for damn sure

Seems like I’m one of the only people bat thinks Reid is a first round caliber safety. He got beat a few times early in the season but then really turned it in. I think he’s first round worthy in a class that doesn’t have 32 first round worthy players.
