    No offense, but I would think most folks are just going to wait until we get some sore of Official Announcement before we decide it is "Resolved".

I'm not absolutely certain Tepper is the second highest bidder.

He could potentially be the lowest bidder.

Yeah, I have no idea of how Navarro will structure this deal, but I'd of course prefer he not be stretched to his financial limits to purchase the team.  As someone pointed out earlier in another thread, that might result in significant increases in prices for Panthers tickets and services.

I don't know how realistic partnering with someone like Goodnight might be, but having a billionaire as a junior partner might not be a bad way to go (especially if they are from the Carolinas).

I mean, I guess they're the same? I'm obviously a real salty dog, a real salt shaker, a regular pillar of salt, whatever the phrase is.

But when the official announcement comes and confirms not just what I said, but also the details of what I said, go ahead and remember that Mr. Scot is a complete internet-genius know-nothing who didn't even have access to basic information that anyone who knows anyone in the Carolinas already knew.

The only real thing we've heard about Goodnight is that he's "interested" and that he wants the Panthers to stay in the Carolinas.

Minus any actual past relationship between Navarro and Goodnight, it'd all be speculation, of course.  So ultimately, it falls under the category of "possible, but not likely".

I don't really believe it gets that far, either.  Nor do I believe the NFL hates Navarro or even dislikes him as much as might be speculated.

In the end, if the team is sold to Navarro, I think the most reaction you'll see from the league will be the equivalent of an eye roll, a heavy sigh, a downward glance and an "Okay, that didn't work out. Let's move on and make the best of it."

Nothing more machiavellian than that is on the horizon.

Truthfully, the one lasting consequence that I could see out of this is that they might not throw as much support behind Tepper the next time a team comes up for sale.

AFAIK Goodnight is not involved except in a "friend of the team"/advisory capacity, which is what he's been for ages. If he were a bidder he would be known by now. Excepting Sabates, the Utah guy, and Rubin, there have been a grand total of four serious bids. Tepper out first, then Kestenbaum, then Black, leaving Navarro. Again, regardless of the details, which I believe I have down correctly but wouldn't bet my life on, this has been sealed for Navarro for a while. I don't claim any special knowledge of the guy - again, I had literally never heard of him before all this - but he will own the team.

To be fair, what he did was pretty nasty and creepy.

Said it elsewhere: He still might have gotten away with it in the old days (honestly feels like he expected to) but in the post Ray Rice / Josh Brown / Harvey Weinstein / #metoo world, that just ain't happnin, nor should it.

"Those meddling kids" got him, and it's ultimately nobody's fault but his own.

I don't think anyone is saying Goodnight is a majority bidder.  I just speculated that since he has been linked as "interested" but not as a bidder that perhaps he could be a minority investor of Navarro's.  Nothing to base it on except the fact they are both tied to the Carolina's and want the team to stay here (which they would do no matter who wins the bid).  

It has also been reported that Navarro has a couple of investors, so whomever they are likely has pretty deep pocket (relatively speaking).  Nobody knows who Navarro's investors are or the level of Goodnight's actual interest.  So it's just guessing and connecting dots at this point.

Yeah, "possible though not likely", especially with us not being aware of any prior relationship between them outside of the belief that all billionaires somehow know each other.

And yeah, that'd likely be "game over" for Tepper, and/or pretty much everyone else.
