How many more years do you think Rivera should get?

I know we've been to the Super Bowl.  I recognize that Rivera is the most successful coach in Panthers history.  He's been here for seven seasons already, with a legitimate franchise quarterback and a perennially good defense.  Overall record is 64-47-1.  The guy he replaced was a regular Jeff Fisher, punctuating a perpetual 7-9 run with a few really good years.  Under Fox, we were always good enough to be respectable, never good enough to win it all.  Is this where we're headed with Rivera?

Of the Super Bowl winning coaches in the last 20 years, only one Super Bowl winning coach has been with a team this long who hasn't won already, Bill Cowher (who took a whopping 14 years for his big game, but won it the year after he got a legit franchise !B).  The next closest coaches all won in year five--Tony Dungy, John Harbaugh and Mike McCarthey.

Say we go 10-6 for the next 3-4 years and our core starts aging out.  Would you still have faith in Rivera to eventually deliver a title? Or do you think he should be replaced if he doesn't deliver one in X years?

He should be here for the long run as much as you all bitch. Unless he just starts bombing or gets John Fox-esque then I see no reason to look elsewhere. GM is a different story. Rivera has shown enough success that any GM would be open to working with him. However if ownership wants the identity of the team to change, that's all out the window. Steelers still have Tomlin who in honesty is god awful but a players coach. It's one thing to have a franchise QB but if you have continuity at coach that's just as important.

I hope the new owner gives him a chance to develop a team out from under JR's influence.  I'd like to see what that looks like.

Additionally, if Rivera is let go, I hope they already have the replacement at hand and don't have to go looking for someone in semi-desperation mode.

What sort of influence do you think JR has right now?  I mean, how does it manifest?

It’s hard as hell to win in this league, and even harder to win a Super Bowl. Rivera is winning, and as long as he keeps winning, I’m all for him staying. Although, I want ownership to come in and get us a new GM, I’m fine with the coach. He still makes some mistakes that coaches of his tenure shouldn’t be making, but for the most part, each year he’s been here, we’ve seen growth.

We made the playoffs last year in a super tough NFC with all of our receivers getting hurt at one point and barely lost to the Saints.

Rivera has at least 2-3 more years.  He has his flaws, but you can do way worse than him.
