This will mess with your draft history narrative...

Word from an insider?  Names or it doesn't count.

Hurney was a completely average drafter outside of the first round.  I've said that countless times, and when you measure him against the rest of the league that's what emerges no matter what metric you're using.  Personally, I'm not a big fan of AV, but it's a measure.  Barnwell had a far more complex measure several years ago, it also showed the same thing.  No one is saying that he's perfect, but the draft itself isn't perfect.

I don't care who said what about whom, because for every un-named source you have that says he sucked I can make up one that said he was awesome. At the end of the day, two things are pertinent.  First, we've never had back-to-back winning seasons.  There's your end-all argument against Hurney, and no one is disputing that.  Second, he's not the worst GM in the league at the draft, not by a long shot.  So that's not the issue.

As an aside, good on you for remembering a link that was published yesterday.  I see you got your flux capacitor fixed.

The insider has a name, and it's a valid name, but not for me to reveal. The poster on here who knows them can do that if they wish.

And the Reddit link may be new, but the content that it refers to isn't. It was discussed some months back.

George is a valid name.  So is Harold.  It's all bulllshit speculation and rumors until someone owns it, and given that there was no reason not to own it after Hurney left the first time it remains bullshit speculation and rumors.

Our draft history only sucks when you look at it in isolation.  Would you trade it with Tampa Bay's?  Washington's?  Our team has problems, but they're not necessarily draft-related.

Wins...losses...big picture... That's all that matters.

I'm sure if you wanted and you tried hard enough, you could put a positive spin on Matt Millen as a GM too.

Reality: If you have to go to this much effort to make somebody look like they're good at something, they're not.

I don't think whoever made this had "how do I make MH look good?" in their mind. The take away is that he did well drafting. Now how he handled other situations are suspect.

Voice of reason is 2018 is here. MH is our GM. Even if we don't agree with his past, we have to hope he nails it so we have a great season. The last thing I think anyone on this board is for MH to fug up, because that is just wasting another year of the current talent on the roster.

He doesn't have to fug up to get fired when a new owner comes in. If the owner wants a new GM then he can fire MH no matter his performance.

Keep pounding.

It takes isolation, and a lot of it, to argue that Hurney is a good drafter.

There's no amount of spin that changes 3 winning seasons out of 11.

When you compare his draft results to the other 32 teams in the league, you will notice that his first round picks are pretty good.  The rest is average.  This has been said multiple times, but you keep changing it to "Hurney is a good drafter" so you can argue against it.  Stop it.

Adding in the second statement is gratuitous, particularly when it was my first point in my comments on Hurney.  That's just more cheap message board argument crap there.  Stop it.

Here's to hoping that Hurney has a typical Hurney draft with a stud in the first and maybe one or two others who contribute.  After that, maybe a new owner will come in and replace him.

I can hope that Marty does really well as a GM this season.

I can also hope that Johnny Manziel plays in the NFL and looks great.

Given what I know, my expectations for either of those things happening are about the same.

Coaching only gets you so far. Its up to the players to execute the plays. Its like you idiots think that these guys, work almost 365 days a year to try and lose games. That is so dumb. Furthermore, if you knew anything about coaching football, you'd get off your fat asses and go do it. How about sit back, eat your BBQ, shut the fug up, and be a fan?

This literally just shows what we already know. We get good first round picks(ap/pb) and have poo for FA/2-7th round. Can't win or fill out a roster like this.

When you hit well in the first round with such low amount of picks guys like Peppers will keep the average AV high like Fiz said. Lets do this spreadsheet and see how well your AV  is with the first round separated so we can judge the meat of the draft and compare first rounds then 2-7th....how ugly you think it looks then?(and yes even compared to everyone else).
