Panthers very interested in WR DaeSean Hamilton

What gives you that impression?

The Panthers always make terrible offseason decisions, so you can expect a massive extension for Devin.

I’ve seen a picture of him wearing one! Oh wait, that impression... Samuel in the 2nd last year, picking up several this offseason and looking to draft another WR early in the draft. Seems like they are building a stable up in case he wants too much money (which I’m ok with).

Samuel isn’t going to be a factor at all in deciding whether or not to extend Funchess. If anything, Samuel helps provide Devin with a lot of leverage.

Huh.

He’s the best route runner of this class. While not as flashy, he’d definitely be worth a 2nd-3rd.

Not sure what your reading and seeing and hearing.

His route running is good but not even in the same class is as Ridley as far as that.

He doesnt have great speed (a 4.5 guy) and the same size as Samuel.

And yes some of the writers/scouts you read hit the 1st good then get fuzzier into the 2nd.

But they generally have a good idea and hear where they project.  And when 24 out of 25 writers/scouts you read say he is a 4th-5th rounder.  He sure as heck isnt going to be a 2nd round guy.  Unless you see the exceptions like Worley where everyone had a 4th-5th grade and we jumped in the 3rd.  He has shown he was that 5th round grade so far in this league

His avg porjected among everyone is between the 9th-12th WR.  Id be pretty disappointed if we grabbed him in round 2 and 3

While we are on the topic of due diligence with receivers, Carolina WR coach Lance Taylor flew into Penn State’s Pro day a day early to meet with WR Daesean Hamilton, and worked him out at the pro day. Hamilton checks every box CAR needs at receiver and would be around R2-3.

This confirms what I have read---If they do not go WR in the first, he has to be one they would draft later...no earlier than the third--

First line references slot ability, that's not what we need at receiver, Samuel / Wright / Byrd can all fill in that role, we need the compliment to Funchess / #1 receiver potential, we have 2's and 3's already.

I see it this way as well.  maybe they are not confident about Samuel's health.

(Honestly, it's everything I look for in a receiver - because I have always sought to work against institutionalized talent disadvantage. It's where you get ahead of the next guy with better connections. The hard part is knowing where a player has figured it out himself versus where he has been temporarily well coached but will quickly fall back to habit.)
