Mitch Kupchak Presser Today

can't tell if i should have no confidence in this guy or if he just doesn't do vanilla interviews well. he sounded more 'just off the boat' than any new hire i've ever heard give an intro press conference. started off with a super disappointing 'here's how i met michael jordan (and probably got this job)' story-- later says he hopes to become real friends with MJ while working for him, then says he answers to MJ (does nothing to soothe fears of who is really in control).

kinda talked a lot about unimportant things slightly related to the questions being asked-- not very good deflection.

idk, i was looking forward to hearing what this guy was about based on his previous stuff, but he sounds like he's just here to wing it til retirement.

The interviews I've heard from him in the past have sounded about the same.  His name gives some credibility to the organization and the hire I guess, but with a somewhat historically great team with Kobe and Shaq and Kobe and Pau how could you really fug that up?.  He did make the trade for Pau, but that's about it from what I could tell.  Gotta be better than Cho though.  Lol

I thought the interview was awful.  However I only heard the extremely shitty 5 minute thing about meeting mj.  "Gutheridge said I think that guy might can play in the league. " " I responded with you think so? " "that player was Michael Jordan"

Great fuging story Mitch,  no one fuging cares... just make good draft picks

Haven't watched the presser, but Kupchack has the cache that we've lacked in the front office since our reincarnation as a pro franchise.  That means he commands respect not just from other teams in the league, but also I suspect that it will allow him to have more say/push back with MJ when need be.

If you watched the recent Kobe/Shaq sit down, they actually discussed when Kupchak traded Shaq...  you got the impression that Kupchack is fearless and business-first.  Shaq was in full bully mode and wanted to heat Kupchack up, and he didn't flinch...  even had extra security waiting at the office LOL.

Idc about his interviews...  he seems to have a good eye for talent and always owns in trades, and that's all that matters to me.

    • his height, size and arm will forever cause problems and limitations...that is what it is.  I think to a degree, the law of averages is just coming into play a bit with him.  So as he plays more and more, you just flat out get the decent days mixed in too.  Which is just going to happen.
    • Good point. He's definitely better in 10-15 yards. I think that's his biggest improvement. But he wasn't 3-10 +15, he was 3-7, with at least one drop (minor but still). And with multiple passes at 14 yards completed. This passing chart doesn't look like at By one, lol. He threw more "deep" passes than Mahomes (NOT comparing him to Mahomes in a skill way lol), or at least more beyind 10 yards.
    • Karlaftis and Danna have been pretty inconsistent so teams have been doubling Jones and able to contain their pass rush.   But the good thing is that yesterday, we schemed well against Steve Spags Defense, Canales married the surrounding personnel with his QB through play designs within his comfort zone and was able to get downfield at will.  He was able to execute higher difficulty throws and look a lot more comfortable.  It tells me that Canales has a good system in mind, and had an edge gameplanning wise against Spagnuolo - which is nice to see.  It's a bit to see-saw at times with either going way too pass heavy or way too run heavy, but I think he's finding out what works.  It takes time to have it come together, and sure, I could see regression happen against a better front-7, but this was good for the entire system gelling.
