Who are our star players after this year.

Recommended Posts

Now there are a ton of current star players looking older and thinking about life after football. After this season there is a big possibility we lose Olsen, Davis, Peppers, and R. Khalil. We have already lost Stewart, Star, and Norwell. We have a ton of depth FAs next year to Funchess, Mayo, D Williams to name a few.

From this year to next barring any resignings we will have lost 12 starters. Besides Cam and Luke who will be our Stars/starters/captains. KK isn't really a leader and neither is CMC, M.Khalil, Trai, Shaq, Bradberry, or Addison.

What the heck will our team be if guys retire and we don't resign anyone.

This is the way things always are. New leaders emerge. Nobody talked about TD as a leader until what? 2012?

I still think Curtis Samuel has the potential to be a star. Funchess can be a star. Shaq Thompson could be. Olineman don't need to be inspirational leaders, but having an explosive physical back behind them could give them the emotional lift.

CMC is definitely a star. It just doesn't fit into any normal metric. If he start hitting more home runs look out.

You are asking three questions in one (strarters/captains/stars) and then infer that we won't have a team with any of the pieces we have. Do I need to upload a depth chart to show you who our starters will likely be? Understand leaders step up when there is a void, and respect their superiors/leaders when there isn't. I wouldn't worry about it too much. But if you must remain anxious, the cap space frees up greatly with those retires. Rest easy either way.

Who though seems like a leader. In one season we are losing so many key players. Who seems like our future leaders to you. 12 starters gone after one season is crazy to me.

I don't think that is a question that even a hardcore fan can answer. That is something only someone who is intimately involved with the team would know.

Again, great leaders play two roles, they step aside and allow others to lead when it's advantageous and won't disrespect current leadership when they are leading just fine. I've seen the step up or step aside leadership actions play out in sports and businesses very often. The person stepping up sometimes surprises you and you'll likely see some step aside actions go on this year. In the last two years we've already seen some good performances by some young players. But I can't give names because I'd only be speculating, the main thing is I'm not concerned.

We barely had Olsen last year

We barely had Ryan K last year

Pep (though a monster) played a reduced role

TD is being phased out for Shaq, especially now

While I get the sentiment, I also feel like you're thinking about these guys as star players because they're our popular players/faces.  Olsen will be rough when he's gone, but TD's replacement is waiting, Pep was/is on a retirement tour, and Kalil hasn't been healthy in a couple years.  Guys step up, Daryl, Funch, Trai, KK, CMC, Bradberry, Samuel/Draft picks this year will do the same.

It only takes 1 or 2 offseasons to get new superstars. It all depends on who we bring in free agency and the draft by the start of the 2019 season.

The problem is, we haven't been drafting that well lately.

The 2016 draft is like a lost draft, it absolutely murdered our team in terms of infusing good young talent and is part of the reason why we still have an aging roster. Literally only one player from that draft (Bradberry) has been a consistent contributor and even he has been a part of a horrible secondary unit for going on 2 years, if he washes out this season then 2016 draft was a colossal failure. We just cant have drafts like this anymore.

2017 draft there are alot of unknowns. Again, there was only one player in this entire draft (McCaffrey) that was an immediate and consistent contributor to the team. Im holding out hope for Elder, Hall, Samuel, and Moton to be important contributors to the future. But as of right now, that is TWO drafts in a row where we only got 1 player really doing much of anything

Bradberry and CMC are solid I'd say, but neither are great. I wouldnt classify either as superstars. The last "Superstars" that we drafted were Luke in 2012 and KK in 2013. 5+ years ago... lol

2018 draft, we need to do much better.  We can not afford to just get 1 dude contributing . We cant afford to waste years of drafts and not get any home run picks. We've largely got alot of role players from free agency this year again as well, so we're really hedging our bets on having a much better draft than we have had in the past half decade .

If we can get a homerun draft like the Saints did last year, that would go a long way in mitigating the loss of R.Kalil, Olsen, TD , and Peppers.

    • It's sort of funny you guys were so bad with 3s tonight about the same time Silver and LeBron both say the game is broken due to too many 3 attempts. The NBA is almost unwatchable. No defense, refs call fouls for almost anything, guys care more about looking pretty on the court than playing tough, etc. Today's NBA is putrid.
    • It's gotten more complicated with the change of CBS and FOX no longer being exclusive AFC/NFC partners From a home team perspective, the NFL requires the home market (which is typically the broadcast reach of the station airing the game) to carry the game. For times where there is a conflict (let's say, FOX Charlotte is airing some major news event) then the broadcast will go to a local station that FOX Charlotte has an arrangement with -- like the CW, maybe.  Only in super-rare instances would local FOX throw the game over to a major competitor like to WSOC/ABC. But it could happen This is how games that are "exclusive" to streaming will end up being broadcast by a local channel in those home team markets -- because the NFL wants the local market to be able to see the game.  Amazon TNF games will always be available on some local channel in those teams' markets, for example. Or the upcoming Netflix games For TV markets that do not have a local team, then the local station gets to choose from what's available. Ideally, they'd choose a regional game or one that is close in the conference.  In Atlanta, for example, we would typically get one of the NFC South matchups for times when the Falcons aren't playing.
