LOL you literally don't know poo about this team if you think Rivera values the S position.

It's probably the least valued position on his team even behind a fugin long snapper or punter.

Then Ron's a dumb motherfuger to not see his best Defenses had either pro bowl caliber safeties or Safties having pro bowl seasons. .

Or ppl who keep saying this dumbshit don't know poo..

Rivera history..

DC in Chicago 2004-2006

Had ..Mike Brown 2x all pro..

DC in San Diego 2008 -2010

Had.. Eric Weddle 5x pro bowler 4x all pro.

Best 2 defensive seasons as HC..

2013 ..Mike Mitchell pro bowl season..

2015... Kurt Colemen pro bowl season..

For a person who doesn't think safeties are important.. His best Defenses had some good ones on it...

I agree.

But none of those were selected in the first round, so there's that.

This year you have a chance to get a pro bowl caliber young safety in the 1st or 2nd round and there is no way Mike Adam's or Searcey or some fictitious idea that safety is not important in Ron's defense.. Should stop us from grabbing 1.. No matter what Voth says.. If they fail to improve the secondary in a secondary heavy draft IMO.. I lose all hope in this scouting staff Coaching team ,  and FO..

Jmo the Offseasons signs are showing this draft is trash with WR and DE coming in with instant impact. .. Teams are grabbing Vet WR and Dlinemen like a black Friday sales and paying seller market prices.. DBs are getting "I'll call you back later treatment".. Meaning teams know they can get talent in the secondary in the draft and not afraid to wait for it.. While some talented vets sit and wait for teams to call... TE class has no elite talent.. But somebody might get push to the 1st round to avoid getting left out of the run on TE in the 2nd and 3rd round that's going to happen...

Last the talent at guard is making team questions long live draft strategy when it comes to that position.. Usually ppl wouldn't touch the position until late 2nd 3rd and 4th round.. Now they may be more talent and value in grabbing them in the 1st this year..

Was obvious last year after passing on Barnett at 8.  Could easily see a year in advance that no one even remotely close to being able to break Reggie White’s sack record would be available for a playoff team, which we obviously were going to be in 2017.

Now here we are.  Hopefully looking elsewhere at 24 with the new owner Releasing the Kraken at some point.

I think the DL and the OL have to be good.  So, I really like Daniels, Hernandez, Wynn, and Price.  So much, however, depends on Moton.  Are they really going to put him at G?  I think we know we need a C next year and you really do not want a rookie.

This is going to sound funny, but I also think you have to consider the fifth year option and how much a free agent costs you at that position.  Having said that, drafting an interior lineman or a TE or a RB in the first is not economically smart.  You should draft the DEs, QBs, LTs, CBs, and WRs.  So I am not against picking up a third and then using it to move back up in the early second round.

If we did that, we could draft Alexander, Hughes, or Oliver (CBs) and then move back up and grab a Daniels or a Hurst.  We would still have 2 third rounders.  Just a thought.

Thinking out loud here--but let's say the average second contract starting CB costs $10m.  If you draft one in the first round and exercise the fifth year option, you get a starting CB for about $5m per year on average.   If the average center in the NFL costs $5m on a second contract, you have to pay the CB $10m.

$10m for a CB/veteran C is cheaper than $15m for a C/veteran CB.

While I think the Guards may be the best value late in the first, early second, I think you have to consider the cap.  It makes my brain hurt.

Very valid point.  Its one reason some teams tend to value high value positions in the first round.

Its just not the 5th year to consider, the four year cost is also a huge discount.  You don't even have to be correct as much if you stick to those positions.

Lets say you draft an edge rusher in the first round for two straight years.  One is a bust and the other turns out to be a top 5 player.  You just added a $17m player to your roster for about $3m.  The $17m is the cost of the 5th highest paid player.  Your other DE is also costing you $3m but he isn't starting so you are basically paying $6m for $17m dollars worth of production.

Lest say you draft a LG and RB in those two years and both turn out to be top 5 players.  Top 5 at those postions are $7m and $7m.  So you spend $6m for $14m of production.

People need to remember that money saved is money that can be used to address needs in free agency.  I would much prefer to have to find a safety or guard in free agency, than a DE or CB.

I don't disagree. (I'm running out of ways to say it)

Just stating the facts in my previous post.
