Will Cam jump ship when contract is up?

You've stated he currently has little actual passing ability by citing his current completion percentage as the only means of data to backup your assertions of declaring that he is basically just a glorified scrambler.

But now you're going to backpedal about how you only meant four years from now?

I think I'll go with you just don't know what the hell you're actually talking about. Try drinking less so early in the day.

If only there was a way for you or anyone else to see what I actually wrote.

carson palmer with the bengals was the most recent one i can think of, although that was more like him demanding a trade

e: and cousins as mentioned before i posted

Palmer, yeah I forgot about him.

Redskins in effect let Cousins go by not signing him to a long term contract. So I don't think that counts.

Skins didn't want to pay him, so in effect they let him move on.  As long as we offer Cam something close to what he wants, then he will stay.

Palmer is probably a better example.

Cutler was traded.

Are you looking strictly for franchise QBs who left of their own accord? I ask because given how much effort teams will usually go to in order to retain a franchise quarterback, I'm not sure that's a fair measure.

Given the nature of the question, I think it's more fair to look at situations where teams and franchise quarterbacks have separated for whatever reason.

my original comment was

how many teams had a franchise qb leave, when the team wanted them to stay?  I mentioned pay irt Cam, but I should have framed it more clearly.  Very very few qb's leave when the team wants them to stay, and they can reach some agreement on Money.  As long as we are willing to pay Cam, and we don't completely alienate him, he will be here for a while.

Gotcha.

Quarterback money is a pretty huge deal right now though. I do think the possibility exists that Newton's agent might want either more than we have to pay or more than we're willing to pay.

That becomes more possible with a change in ownership.

Cam should retire when his contract is up. As much as we all love him, he doesnt seem to have the skills to last and be successful as age takes away slowly the gifts and abilities that make so many around here hang on his nuts. He cant take those hits much longer. He cant keep running like he has into his mid 30's. Regardless of how he plays and our record until his contract is up doesnt matter. He has not shown an ability to grow as a passer and have the same longevity as well...so many of the other "older" Qb's.

Glad this is just an opinion! But WHAT?

This topic is way too premature.  First of all, we don't even know if the new owner, and by extension his new GM, will like Cam's personality or playing style.  Nor do we know how Cam's body will be holding up at that point.  Even the most ardent Cam fan has to recognize that he has had some significant nicks in the last 2-3 years.  So there is no way of knowing how much more he can take before these nicks become more serious.

Even if his body is holding up well, predicting what he will want to do in three years is folly since we don't have any idea who will be leading this team and what their philosophies will be.  We don't know what kind of offense we'll be running, how many resources the team will put around Cam, nor do we know how they would want to use Cam.  Are they going to let him be himself, or try to pigeon hole him into their idea if a franchise QB (which could be significantly different than his preferred style)?

Bottom line, too much can change in three years to give any sort of reasonable guess as to what may happen with Cam.  There are just too many unknowns at this point.
