The timing wouldn't have mattered, the ball was over to the right of the returner and nearly out of bounds. He was acting like he was about to catch it just like every other returner in the league does. So it still would've been a penalty for launching into a defenseless receiver.

This is not madden. You dont get a areal view of the field as you run down it and you dont have time to find the ball. It was wrong of him to hit a player without the ball but if he were to fly by him or pull up the PR could get a big gain. There is no way he knew were the ball was going unless they planned to put it out of bounds. I dont think that was the case.

Great argument. I'm overwhelmed by your clarity on the issue and your eloquence in dictating it.

Jesus Christ, what about this situation needs more clarity? So anyone who gets knocked the hell out and lays on the ground for a couple minutes has to be carted off the field with a collar to validate their injury? Have you ever watched boxing, football, soccer... any sport for that matter?

Maybe you should read a book on sports physiology because I don't think you have a clue what you're talking about.

Bullshit. There are many special teamers in the league that know they have to give the returner a chance to catch the ball. They know not to hit the returner until he has the ball. Every special teamer in the league practices this. Wesley was just careless and decided to launch himself into a defenseless receiever. Period.

new rule: no hitting Bucs with your shoulder, they will pretend they're dead and have their thug bench try to start fights.

each team will have to petition the league every play to call their players down without contact so they don't get offended.

.

You are clearly dumber than words can describe.

When a PR dose not call for Fair catch you clean him up. That is what is taught also. It was clean until you show proof other wise. poo happens get over it.

ouch. nice shot.

*plays dead for 14 minutes waiting for flag*

*jumps up, cartwheels off field high fiving thug friends*

Are you high?

TAMPA _ Clifton Smith suffered a concussion from the elbow to the chin he took from Carolina’s Dante Wesley that knocked him out before halftime, while waiting to make a punt return.

That is true. You cant deck a Receiver till they touch the ball. That's why it was bad timing. He was just trying to make a play. Then again its illegal to clear your bench and start a fight like the bucs did too.....

What happened to your "there was no fair catch" whining?

oh edit: I see it's still there.

Carted off? WTF were you watching? He walked off on his own power and was walking around the sideline after the play.

And a concussion doesn't automatically mean you are knocked out. I seriously doubt he got anything more than a mild concussion from that because his head wasn't even hit hard. There were other tackles in the game where guys took much harder hits to the head and didn't get a concussion.

He acted like he was dead for two minutes, then got up and walked around. Recovery from serious concussions don't magically happen like that. Or do they? I haven't read any sports physiology books like apparently you have.

clean hit. The return man only has a clean right to field the ball if he calls for a fair catch, which he did not. That's the difference between college and the nfl. The penalty called was fair catch interference, which was completely wrong.

All other points aren't relevant. How was wesley supposed to know that the return man was letting the ball go?

MisterJiggy was asking is that what they have to do in order to convince the people accusing him of faking it.

Yes he was down and got up to walk around. That doesn't mean he didn't have a concussion. There have been players that have played through a whole game with a concussion before.

Apparently we have many doctors on the forum that have gone to medical school for years and can make a clear diagnosis that is superior to a team's own doctors without even examining the patient himself.
