It's a ploy. They want insider information leaked that isn't accurate to what they really are doing. This allows it to get on the web and other teams be like "idiots" but really they are the idiots and we draft a punter in the first round.

Yeah all that is fine but Smitty made his career with on-field fire and explosion. Don’t see that in Kirk. I think Kirk will be a great slot receiver but not much more.

NFL teams aren't dumb.  It wouldn't surprise me AT ALL to learn that most of the "insider" leaks from any team at this time of year are deliberate misdirection / misinformation.  It's the only smart / prudent thing to do.  Teams know information is going to get out, and armed with that knowledge, instead of letting it be the "only" info out there, spread a LOT of information across the canvas so no one can paint an accurate picture.

Look, someone heard something from someone they trust. Since it is a second or third hand relay, you have to take it with a grain of salt, but you also have to thank the guy who brought it here, if, for nothing else, just taking the time to do it.

All of the talk sounds reasonable and is vague enough to reflect a late picking team with a number of needs. The DT thing sounds like a wild pick in the draft, but you have to look at it with this in mind: they didn't say WHEN in the draft and last pick thing wouldn't bother anyone. The need could be greater and earlier in the draft if the Panthers staff knows that something is up with Short, Butler or Love (dang, that sounds like a '70s soul band that toured with Barry White). 

We all know what the shopping list will be that the Panthers will be taking to the market on draft weekend, we just have no idea what will be left on the shelves when we get there.

Honestly, it wouldn’t shock me if the GM who ran the Panthers during Smitty’s prime has Kirk as his top WR. There’s some favorable similarities there but Kirk doesn’t have Smitty’s long speed.

An interior OL in the first three rounds seems like a good idea.

A DB early also sounds like a good idea.

Since there's not much else going on right now to talk about, humor me for a sec.

If you believe there's once in a decade player available you always have him on your board no matter what. Let's say there is some truth to this. Obviously a DT at #1 for us makes no sense. Unless, we trade one of our existing 4 DTs, likely Butler or Love. Would there be a scenario where we go our late #2 and Butler for an earlier #2? Or pair him with a #3 to try and sqeak out another #2? Think about it: Payne, #2, #2, and #3?

Nevermind, that just made my head spin. I may revisit this later.
