Guess the fine for D. Wesley

Looks like a legal hit to me.. Anyone complaining about that hit is bitching because it's their guy.

I could see a small fine for the helmet to helmet, but this is football..

Agreed 100%. That's homerism if you complain about that hit. NFL Safety Job Description: Hit someone really hard, especially in the endzone, when they touch the ball with so much as a fingernail to avoid them catching it. Well done Dawkins. I remember that hit, and remember thinking it was legit then too.

Nope, wrong just like the 3 or 4 posters that kept saying that here yesterday.

I said, IF... and with good reason, I have yet to see a video where he shows a solid waving of his hand.. If there is a video, please point me into the right direction.

He doesn't have to give a fair catch signal !!!

Assuming you've seen more than 2 or 3 games, how many times have you seen the gunners run downfield and just blast the punt returner before he has a chance to make the catch?

You don't, because it's against the rules !!!!

The punt returner has every right to make the catch WITHOUT HAVING TO SIGNAL FOR A FAIR CATCH.

Football 101.

lol... and I thought you would confirm the fair catch. Silly me.

If you had a clue, perhaps this would make sense.. but let me try anyway.... it's pretty clear Wesley was trying to time the catch right. There is one reason you want to do this, so the guy touches the ball and loses it, in hope that you're teammates will recover....the.... loose...ball.

This would be totally legit if it wasn't CLEARLY a fair catch....

How many games have you seen yourself? (rhetorical question, you don't have to respond.. no, seriously.. It's okay)

And regardless, I'm pretty sure there isn't a rule about hitting a player before he catches the ball if he DOESN'T show a fair catch.. You'll have to find that in the rule book for me other than saying "well, you don't see that alot.. so, it must be true".. One reason you don't see that alot? Because there's rarely a chance for it.. Most of the time if the gunners are that close, tthe guy will wave for a fair catch or let the ball bounce.. The punt returner makes that decision before he gets laid out...

Nope, I didn't see one either. But you cant interfere with his opportunity to make the catch.

help me find it in the rule book.. I'm interested to have this confirmed..

and even so, I think he was trying to time it right more than just interfering with the PR... With that said, the hit would be legit and just got the timing wrong.. the question is, where was the fair catch shown? a little half-assed arm in the air isn't legit either, technically.

and his shoulder went into the guys chest, not his head, as I've seen referenced somewhere..

Well there's your problem right there.

dude, quit talking poo and back your claims up with something solid. so far you're coming up way short on all accounts.

there was no fair catch called. yea, he was trying to time it right, but he didn't. Thus the hit was illegal. If it had come a second later it would've been legal and a great hit, but it didn't so it wasn't.

Fair Catch

The member of the receiving team must raise one arm a full length above his head and wave it from side to side while kick is in flight. (Failure to give proper sign: receivers’ ball five yards behind spot of signal.) Note: It is legal for the receiver to shield his eyes from the sun by raising one hand no higher than the helmet.

No opponent may interfere with the fair catcher, the ball, or his path to the ball. Penalty: 15 yards from spot of foul and fair catch is awarded.

A player who signals for a fair catch is not required to catch the ball. However, if a player signals for a fair catch, he may not block or initiate contact with any player on the kicking team until the ball touches a player. Penalty: snap 15 yards.

If ball hits ground or is touched by member of kicking team in flight, fair catch signal is off and all rules for a kicked ball apply.

Any undue advance by a fair catch receiver is delay of game. No specific distance is specified for undue advance as ball is dead at spot of catch. If player comes to a reasonable stop, no penalty. For penalty, five yards.

If time expires while ball is in play and a fair catch is awarded, receiving team may choose to extend the period with one fair catch kick down. However, placekicker may not use tee.

I clearly did not see him put his arm up full length for a fair catch.
