Guess the fine for D. Wesley

Happy Panther

The NFL should impose at least a minimum six figure fine and suspend him for no less than the rest of the season.

I want to give kudos to (most) of the Panthers fans for not defending the player’s actions you guys/gals are a class act

This is ridiculous. Wesley shouldn't of hit the guy but if he had touched the ball and Wesley had smashed into and killed him it would've been legal. I don't think any measure beyond what was taken in game should be necessary.

You are right. I think we were all shocked by that.

I wasn't really all that shocked. Smith didn't signal fair catch, and was looking up as if the ball was about to be in his hands. It was bad judgment on Wesley's part for not waiting, and he should/will be fined for it accordingly. But for this news to be on AOL/Yahoo! homepages and people to talk about multiple game suspensions over it is absurd.

Don't call timeout with 10 seconds left in the half if you're afraid your Pro Bowl returner might get an ouchy.

TBH I no idea how much he makes I have never even herd of him before this game. But when I get a speeding ticket the judge never asked me how much I make before he imposes a penalty. I know I know this is not a court of law but dam he could have killed the guy.

Wesley gets to a player signaling for a fair catch a full second before the ball gets there, leaves his feet and launches a shoulder block. the NFL said he did call a fair catch. Not sure why the video doesn't show it...

There's no excuse for that. The ball obviously hadn't arrived and the returner is completely defenseless with his head up to watch the ball. He's lucky he did not break the guy's neck. He should get a suspension for that and a Hefty fine.

Oh and Geekatlrg...

It wasn't a fair catch. There was no signal. Doesn't forgive the hit but claiming there was a fair catch is just a way to artificially play up how bad it was.[/quote

To be fair I did NOT see him call for a fair catch. (I seen a little hand wave) I am making this assumption from the call on the field and what the NFL says. Now saying that the ball was still a good 2 seconds away when the hit was made so either way it’s a bum deal. I have read some of his interviews today.

"It wasn't like I deliberately tried to hurt anybody or nothing like that, that's not even me," Wesley said. "So it just so happened, I hit him. My prayers are out with him. I would never try to hurt anyone, I was just trying to make a play."

Statements like that make me think he is a good guy and made an early hit and he truly has remorse for it

"I'm surprised, why were none of their players ejected?," Wesley asked after the game. "Why was I the only one ejected because I was trying to make a play? They came toward me. I didn't go in their face and try to say something aggressive...

"I felt like really the refs could have controlled that situation," Wesley said. "I was trying to see what the ref called on that, and then their whole team just come and surround me. I just wondered if the refs were going to call them for..

Now I think he should have stuck with his first statement the last two just made him look like he was trying to shift the blame.

other than this situation it was a good game Gratz on your win.

thats because the refs could have handled the situation better and his question is a good one. If there was no fair catch, then Wesley had every right to make the play. Just because the NFL goes back and makes an "official decision" doesn't mean it was that obvious in the game.

ANd that is one thing I think many fail (completely) to realize. You as fans have replays, time to mull over your "official OPINION", and never consider what is it like to play in game, in the moment, reacting and making decisions in a split second.

Once you do, you realize, calling for this guys head and saying he needs suspended all year are being extremely ridiculous and need to get off your pathetic soap box... Not calling Geek out for this, since you did seem to review your thoughts a little less unbiased, but for those who aren't, I disagree with you. :)
