A great player who's good in the locker room and on the field just doesn't get traded like that, particularly on his rookie contract.  Yet Cooks has been traded away twice.  Makes you wonder what he's doing that we don't know about.

Cooks also rejected the Pats contract extension so it could be something as simple as Belichick trying to get as much value as he can given the fact that he knows they couldn’t resign him

Yep...they gave up a 1st last year to get him.  Got it back and moved up 9 spots. Win.

Also, poor Goff.  Cap hell and mass turnover might be coming to LA right as he's due his 2nd contract...when QB salaries will probably account for 25% of the team's cap and they won't be able to afford him any help.

This stupid post perfectly sums up the majority of the mouth breathers on this site.

Always chasing the Super Bowl that’s 4 years away!

The Rams have Goff on a cheap rookie deal and have a window to win now. Once Goff is due for a new contract you have NO IDEA what their cap situation will be like. Literally none.

So while you keep playing for something that’s unattainable, the Rams will continue to focus on the now.

And on some level, I respect the all in approach and said they're Super Bowl or bust.  But you also can't be a complete fuging moron running a team, trading away assets for ONE shot, especially after they traded away so many just to get Goff...because that's all they're going to have here, ONE shot, next season. I'm not chasing a Super Bowl that's 4 years away, I'm trying to field a team in 2019 that's halfway decent. That's a lot of eggs in one basket, and maybe it is their only play with guys on rookie deals, etc. My argument you quoted above is about creating a team with sustained success, for years. Again as I said, Goff is fuged.

Players in need of a new contract ASAP (Expiring year).  Goff needs a new contract in 2 years, probably will be for around 28-30 million per year.

  • Cooks (2018) - Just gave up a 1st round pick for him.  A guy who is a deep threat, and Goff, guess what, can't throw a deep ball. (WR market - - 14 million minimum)
  • P. Cooper (2019) - All-Pro return guy (5 million minimum)
  • Gurley (2019) - (13-15 million per year.)
  • Whitworth (2019) - will retire surely, but literally their entire OL expires this year or next. (What's a new OL cost, 40 million minimum?)
  • Suh, Donald (2018) - Suh is auditioning, but Donald will get 20 million. Brockers (2019), is the only guy on the DL signed past this year. (A new DL with Brockers and Donald commanding 30+ alone, call it 45)
  • LB Group has Barron, that's it (Yikes)
  • L. Joyner (Franchise), Talib (2019), Peters (2018), S. Shields (2018) - There's 40 million to keep those four guys together.
  • Zuerlein (2019) - Will get 6-7 million as a kicker

Their picks this year?  A late 3rd, and three 4th rounders (four 6ths, but meh).  2019?  No 2nd round pick.  If they're LUCKY, they're getting 3-4 capable starters out of the draft in the next 2 years. Capable, not good.  That's pathetic. Again, they won't be drafting replacements for many of these guys, and will have to shop for replacements.  Good luck there when Goff, Donald, Gurley, and Peters have 50% of your salary cap.

I agree with most of this post, except about Goff and Cooks.... Goff was one of the best deep ball passers last year

Maybe a little bit of believing Twitter on my part then.  CIan Fahey spent all offseason talking about Goff missing Watkins deep, and calling him an awful vertical passer after the trade.  Turns out he was the 11th best in the league (granted, that's not amazing), but better than I made him out to be.

Yeah, he definitely missed some, but I remember pretty vividly some good looking deep balls, especially to Robert Woods and occasionally Watkins.

But I agree, this all-in approach will most likely deplete them for a long time.  Just depends if they win a Super Bowl to decide if it was worth it.

I get Bell is making $15 mil a year but I think the next highest paid RB makes like half that. I don’t think Gurley will get more than 10-11

In fact a lot of those numbers are a bit high...

regardless the Rams will definitely need to be spot on with what they do to stay relevant in the future. But hell I’d take 5 years of losing seasons for a SB ring
