Another scandal on Mint Street???

I agree that some of these rules seem arbitrary, and dumb, and the NFL could surely pay the cheerleaders a higher wage. Not sure if it qualifies as a scandal, lots of jobs, as previous posters have pointed out, have rules and requirements that suck, and not many have the perks that come with being an NFL cheerleader.

Man, is there any better clickbait than a topic about cheerleaders?

The NFL doesn't pay the cheerleaders, the Carolina Panthers do.  Just clarifying.

And let's do keep in mind that the upside of this job goes way beyond the pay.  Look at who is currently running the team if you need ANY further confirmation.

Got a friend who's sister is a current cheerleader for the Top Cats, shes quitting because of the 125# weight limit for the ladies they impose.  I'm genuinely surprised at the reactions on this board.  The team is a multi-billion dollar enterprise and the Top Cats are a part of the "face" of the franchise, yet getting paid next to nothing.  Its pretty embarrassing for the team, but a lot more embarrassing for some of the fools posting on this topic.  I forget the team is in the Carolinas sometimes.  Thanks for the cracker barrel-esque reminder.

You shouldn’t be surprised. You hit it on the head when you mentioned the team is in the Carolinas. I knew exactly the response the majority would have as soon as I read the first post. You’ve got a poster in here who’s said what JR allegedly said to employees, both racial and sexist, aren’t a big deal. You’ve also got many posters who’ve said they’ll stick by JR no matter the outcome. Gotta know your audience, and like my dad used to tell me all the time, “this is still North Carolina, and it’s still the south.”

Can we stop with the “but but they signed up for it” crap. A bunch of damn cave men in here.

Just because someone agrees or voluntarily to work somewhere, doesn’t mean they should be treated like sh*t or asked to do absurd things. We don’t know everyone’s situation or why they agree to do the things they do. Just another example of a group of men incapable of empathy or putting themselves in the shoes of someone else.

I don't think there would be much complaint if they were compensated fairly. Every job has shitty rules and regulations. The difference is the compensation. For example someone said the girls must stay under a certain weight. So do NFL players. They need to be careful of what they post on social media.  So do NFL players. All in all it comes down to the dollars and cents.

If I told you how employees at NBC sports were treated you would want to start a riot. But they know someone will take the job so nothing changes. Compensation or workplace conditions.

If you told me that NBC employees were treated unfairly, my first response would definitely not be to scream and holler about “how they chose to work here.” To me, this is akin to individuals yelling “NFL players make millions, they should just shut up and play ball.” My first response would be to asses the situation, and try to understand both sides. If I came to the conclusion they were being treated like crap, then I’d do whatever I could to help them in their fight.

There’s quite a few reasons nothing really changes. One of the reasons is the responses in this thread.

I haven’t disrespected naan person in here. If you’re offended by my use of cave men, then as my grandpa would say, “hit dogs holler, and you’re looking like ole yeller to me.”

I like how you use narratives of your family to insult people.  It's like you're some type of comedian.  I'm not offended by what you write, I just see what you are doing.  Grouping everyone together in one group and firing a cannon at them.  It's whatever, but an intellectual would come in with more of an open mind than to lambaste everyone in here.

But that is the point. It's the entertainment industry. While it's not right or moral this is the game. I worked in NYC for 2 years in this business and I'd never go back. Editors getting paid poo money for the "chance" to work for a big company. Models blowing photographers for an opportunity to be put on their IG and get noticed.

This is the world we live in. It's not a moral issue it's an economical one. Having experienced this first hand it hits home. But again, we know full well how this operates going into it and yet we do it anyway, myself included. I'd love to see a change but I just don't see it happening. Perhaps I've become jaded.

Disclaimer: I never blew a photographer nor has a model blown me.

cheerleaders aren't that important or cared about that much. the whole squad could be replaced by a whole other group and barely anyone would notice

there isnt much of a demand for cheerleaders, and they arent hard to replace. so either take what you get if you want to be a cheerleader or dont be one. there isnt a market for them. if they tried to get paid more or squeeze more out of the team, especially if it was a league wide strike or push, teams would just do away with them all together

i think its should be scrapped anyway. its good for highschool. they got cheers and work with the band and stuff. but in the nfl they are just sex symbols and they dance around and are largely ignored. Its true they are being exploited. you should be mad that there are women being sexualized and thats literally their only purpose and they arent getting paid poo.  just get rid of them! simple solution! they arent important enough to pay anymore than they are! its like the shitty upgrade you choose to go without cause it costs a little more

Well they did sign up for it...... and that's a fair assessment. The point with that comment is that they did know what was required of the role.

Now with your comment in bold above, you are being just the same as everyone by assuming they are incapable of empathy. There are very valid points being made in this thread from both ends, but to say one is non empathetic is counter productive to your primary argument.

Putting yourself in someone's shoes would mean you'd understand how they feel about a subject. no? What's the definition of empathy? "the ability to understand and share the feelings of another."

So, within one post you knocked others for not being empathetic while demonstrating zero empathy..........

If you think there is an uproar now just wait. The feminists would eat you alive.

It's funny how our modern era works.  Complain about something until it gets taken away, and then complain that it was taken away. It's almost like our society is stuck in kindergarten.
