no because your whole point is to negate OP's whole argument based on you disagreeing with a tiny part of their greater complaint with workplace treatment. i've refuted your point by pointing out the multiple factors that OP finds ridiculous with the NFL cheerleading environment. keep grasping at those straws though.

You're so triggered that I didn't talk about the other topics that your argument devolved to ad hominem.

Keep talking about everything else except for my point if that's what makes you feel better!

Show me one post or article from a top cat talking about how terrible these working conditions are? I bet I can find a lot more talking about how fun and how much of a thrill it is to have 70000 fans cheering for you and even showing up on national television. They don't do it for money and are likely glad to be there. For most I suspect being able to work as a top cat cheerleader is a dream come true. This whole terrible working conditions and being used is a crock. They have other jobs and make money other ways. They are smart educated woman who like being a top cat. The assertion these are terrible working conditions thread is ridiculous.

As usual, nobody looks up anything, just relying on hearsay. Didn't take long to find these....

Most pro cheerleaders say that their teams provide ample warning that the commitment required is extreme, and that the pay might be less than waitressing or an entry-level retail job. So why are so many eager to be cheerleaders anyway?

“I didn’t do it for the money, and I don’t think anybody does,” said Monroe, the former Eagles cheerleader, noting that her compensation was “fair” because she never considered it a full-time job. “It’s more about doing it for the love of dance, or the love of football or maybe modeling.”

Quote

Every year, hundreds of women try out with the hopes of being selected as one of the two or three dozen selected as cheerleaders for an NFL team. The would-be cheerleaders must first cough up some cash to be considered for the gig. To audition for the Atlanta Falcons’ cheerleading squad, for example, there is a $35 fee—cash or money order only (no checks). The Indianapolis Colts charge $75 to each woman auditioning.

Quote

In the aftermath of multiple lawsuits and tons of bad PR, NFL teams seem to be paying cheerleaders better lately, and yes, that includes payment for most practices and appearances. Nowadays, NFL cheerleaders earn somewhere between $75 to $150 per game, and might make as much as $50 an hour for special corporate appearances. San Diego Chargers cheerleaders had been getting paid a flat $75 per game, but a California law that went into effect in 2016 mandated that they be paid for all their work at least at the state minimum wage of $10 per hour.

And they aren't doing it as a career. More like trying out for a better career.

he salary of a cheerleader on a professional sports team depends on the team and the sport, but most make very little. Cheerleaders in the NFL and NBA earn about $50 per home game. Rarely do pro cheerleaders receive more than $135 for a game. Teams can pay small wages because some dancers would do the job for free. Dancing in front of millions of people can get a person noticed for other, higher-paying jobs, such as a dance choreographer.

Quote

Pro cheerleaders somewhat make up for their low salaries with the perks offered by teams. Teams usually give cheerleaders their own personal trainer and free beauty products, and some cheerleaders make extra money on the side from personal appearances and endorsement contracts. In general, most cheerleaders hold a full-time job or attend university.

I have a client who was a Laker girl and also an associate at a downtown law firm. Surely, it wasn't the pay but the prestige that brought her in.

I have no issue with the cheerleaders being told to arrive hours early before a game starts. It's the other things stated in the article that I'm concerned about.

Why are you so concerned,  when it is obvious that the young women who try out and make the squads are quite happy with their part time and temporary employment ?

It may come as a bit of a surprise for you, but some folks actually VOLUNTEER their time and talent for various causes because it looks good on resumes and they LIKE it.

If you took the time to read the OP, you would know why I'm concerned. I'm not about to keep explaining myself over and over. If you can't comprehend, then that's your problem not mine.

Why are you making such a big deal as if these women are being used or somehow victimized. They like what they do and don't think it is a problem. And they aren't some backwoods uneducated women. They have careers and many are very educated. Why not ask them how it is or what needs to change before assuming it is a bad place to work or all these changes are needed. I bet you are more unhappy for them then they are

I’m making a big deal because I personally know 2 women who have complained of the conditions and issues they go through to be cheerleaders of professional sports teams. Ones in the NFL and the other is in the NBA. So, I’m going to speak for them, because they have stood up for me and mine in other social issues. You are right in that they aren’t undeducated, as one attended North Carolina Central and the other Southern Miss. So, I’m not jumping into anything I have no clue about. Call me a SJW, because I know you want to.

I feel like I'm talking to a brick wall here.  Why do you keep trying to make this about Cookie and not the article she posted?  I don't know but it seems like you are just coming in here trying to defend someone you think is being attacked while ignoring the actual issue.

The issue isn’t being ignored, as again, I’ve got 2 friends who’s complained to me for the past 3 years. Also, I’ll defend Cookie everyday, all day, but no need to defend her here as I agree with her.

Two options:

1. The cheerleaders get paid more in the same condition

or

2. No more cheerleader jobs

Which would you select? You have expressed your opinion avidly, and I am curious which of these seem to be more acceptable in your eyes?

My friends would be upset, but I’m leaning towards doing away with cheerleading. I really don’t want my little girl doing it past 9 or 10 years old.

Fair enough. But I wasn't speaking about any cheerleader in any sport. I was referring to the Panthers cheerleaders only. Was she a top cat? Because that was the point of this thread. Secondly, as you note your friend complained about conditions and that could be for several reasons including they suck. Still I bet that not everyone or even a majority feel that way. Different people have different expectations and ideas of what is fair and what she deserves. So is this relevant to the discussion or justification in general.
