Dislocated Shoulder

Recommended Posts

Dislocated my shoulder for the first time two weeks ago. I fell and dislocated it. Hurt like a motherfuger. Got it reduced in the ER that night. Then the next morning it was dislocated again. Went to the ER again and got it reduced. No issues since but....

Has anyone had to deal with an anterior dislocation before? I have it immobilized in a sling right now. When did you start PT? Did it ever fully recover?

Not exactly a dislocation, but I had this happen when I was in 5th grade.

Had a sling strapped to my body for 6 months. No physical therapy, but then again this was in the early 80's.

The best part was that they had to set it 3 twice, and after it came unset the third time, they left it unset, and it pulled itself back into place.

I had an inferior dislocation when I was a teenager back in the late 80s.  Basically was skiing and some jackass ran over the back of my skies knocking them from under me.  I landed on the ground with my arm out at a 45 degree angle and my shoulder dislocated downward.  Granted, I had youth on my side, but I did make a full recovery with no PT.  Had my arm in a sling for roughly a month.

I don't have a dislocation, but I do have a Grade 4 AC joint separation. Been dealing with the pain for about 3 years and finally decided to go find out the source. Turns out the ligaments in the AC joint are torn so I have to go under the knife in about a month. Mines more of a separation of the shoulder blade and collar bone than an actual dislocation.

As a basketball and baseball player throughout my youth, I decided to play football my HS freshman year. First regular season game as a TE, I got perfectly undercut and came down almost vertical on my left shoulder and dislocated it. End of football career. But yeah, I remember it hurt like hell.

Fast forward almost 50 years later and there's a little arthritis that reminds me occasionally, but no long term damage and I still had a decent enough b-ball career that I got recruited to Div 1 school.... but that's another story.
