Latest updates on the team sale

At this point I think Jerry more than anything else wants to save his legacy in these parts. What better way than to sell to a guy that in all likelihood would never think of moving the team.

I don't know that Tepper makes that more likely though.

Tepper is the NFL's guy, and the league wants the Panthers to stay put.

That said, I agree that Richardson would probably see Navarro being from the area as an advantage. How Richardson sees it is probably the most important thing.

Another Panthers bidder in town

This reeks of the NFL stepping in and fast tracking the sale.  It sounds like they want to make sure it doesn't linger and gets voted on at the May meetings.  While the league has said they "hope" they will be ready for a vote in May, I think they are taking a more active approach to make sure it happens.

I think it's best for everyone that we get a new owner in place ASAP so I don't mind if that's the case.

I think Tepper buying the team actually increases the chance it stays (don't think any of the buyers would actually move it anyway, but...).  He's from Pittsburgh and is based down in Miami, so is an East coast guy.  And since both areas already have an NFL team, and the fact Charlotte is in between both areas, this is probably the perfect location for him.  Don't think he's tied to another metropolitan area that lacks a team, which is the biggest reason to fear a team moving after a sale (wanting to move to team closer to their main base of operations).

Not to mention that it would make virtually zero business sense to move the team from an established and financially successful market to one in which there are no guarantees solely on the hope that the fans in that area invest in the team the way the Carolina's have.

What about that suggests this?

Agree.  I think everyone's ready for this to be over.  I just wonder what effect an owner being announced prior to the draft would be.  Even though he wouldn't be official, I'm sure he would have some say in what he is looking for.  For example, if he meets with Rivera and Hurney and gives them a new direction he wants to team to go in, could it shift the focus of the draft and what our expectations are?

A new owner or any owner better not ever be making any decisions that shift draft strategies and directions.

The fact that we are having a rush of visits in a very short time frame just after the league made a point of reiterating they want the vote in May.  To make sure that happens, there can't be a prolonged delay while they wait for all of the prospective owners to make their visits.  We're down to the wire, and with at least three realistic possibilities, there is likely to be some more lengthy negotiations taking place to whittle it down to a final owner.  And most people that will be paying billions for a company will want to see the full scope of what they are buying (especially when a significant part of the purchase is the stadium) before entering final negotiations.

Obviously, there is no way of knowing anything as a fact, but logic does lend itself to recognizing the league wants to make sure they can wrap this up in May, as planned.

Makes sense.

Mind you, if the NFL is becoming more actively involved, can't help wondering if they might not "gently nudge" Jerry Richardson to make "the right decision".

Absolutely it could, and probably would.

Would also make sense given that it comes right on the heels of the owners meetings.
