This is all about not tipping their hand to anyone else in the draft. Neither of these statements is likely the case. 

I can't imagine that anyone would be fooled by that.  More than likely, its an attempt to help the confidence of those two players by letting them know they might be in our future plans.

At running back, there's still dirt cheap free agents to be had, might as well wait to the draft and take a guy if he fits, if not, move on and sign someone like Alfred Morris.  The cupboard of far more bare at tight end, a move in the draft is 100% necessary.
