Lowering The Head To Initiate Contact Is Now A Penalty

At this rate, unfortunately, I think the game of football is beginning its death-throws.  They are slowly but surely making the game unwatchable and, when that finally hits the tipping point, the professional and college games are going to collapse on themselves, because the money will then be GONE.  And that is the lubrication that keeps all those gears turning... $$$.

If true, this rule could impact the value of the Carolina Panthers, if not scuttle the sale of the team entirely.

A bit of reality:

Virtually everyone actually f*cking involved in the game wants this. Players, coaches - everyone who isn't a complete sociopath. (Actually, a fair number of players don't want it, to be fair. Half of them are brainwashed beyond belief and the other half are, yes, complete sociopaths.)

Knowing what we know these days, what we are doing to young men's brains in the name of entertainment is completely f*cking unsconscionable. No one really cares if a bunch of high school warriors who now work for Bank of America and only enjoy Mandingo fighting in their spare time think it's "flag football" - honestly, you're disgusting.

This has nothing to do with safety. Lowering the head is a natural reaction, but if your technique is good then nobody gets hurts. Having your head up the whole way actually hurts the neck and can cause serious damage to it. The NFL is categorizing blatant dirty, cheap hits in which a player lowers the head and launches into a player along with those that actually do it right and now everyone is suffering for it.

This will be like holding where they could call it every play.  That will give them even more leeway to manipulate the outcome of games as they see fit based on how and when they choose to call something that is technically always happening.

You never disappoint.

Lowering the head makes the back of your head and neck form a straight line. Which takes pressure off the neck and is ideal in contact situations. Try standing straight up. Now lower yourself and lift up your head. Feel more strain on the neck? Well imagine a 200-225 lbs running back slamming against you while looking up. This rule could potentially cause paralysis situations at an alarming rate.

Some of you need to learn how to read. It says lowering the head to initiate contact WITH the head is a penalty, not just lowering your head during a run.

Essentially don't use your head as a weapon.

We already have that rule.  They could have just clarified.  They didn't.

This is a new rule.

Again:

Quote

“It is a foul if a player lowers his head to initiate and make contact with his helmet against an opponent”

Which is the exact description of what running backs with forward momentum do when players come up to tackle them.

Sounds like another personal "interpretation" rule for the officials to muck up.

We've just gone through several years where no one knew what an actual catch looked like in the NFL.

Now this.
