CAP will be power back according to Rivera

If he is replacing Stewart than you need someone to replace him on the roster.  I would expect 3 RBs to make the 53.

I go back and forth on this.

If Cap, CMC and a late round pick (4-7) or cheap free agent can handle the RB position then that frees up our higher picks to address other needs.  I feel like we have enough needs for that to be beneficial.  Once teams go back to 53 I would think there would be some cheap options out there.

but

The running back class this year seems really strong so It would be very tempting to draft one in the first 3 rounds.

"He's a fumbler."

"He doesn't run with power."

What the hell imaginary RB inside your own heads have y'all been watching in the few opportunities that CAP has been given over the last 3 years?

Last time i saw him he fumbled 2 outta 3 carries...

In 2015 we seemed to be able to run on pretty much anyone, and that was with an aging Stewart and Cam Newton. Then we hit a brick wall beginning with SB50. Did Stewart start to trail off some? Sure, but he didn't just become a terrible RB overnight. The OL has been on the decline since early 2016, though playcalling has undoubtedly been a contributing factor at times.

For awhile we were doing well with Michael Oher, it sucks how things played out for him, because having him on the left side when he was healthy actually helped establish our run game despite Remmers being a turnstile on the other side. Trying to anchor the OL with Matt Kalil is where we really sent ourselves off the rails. Now you add the loss of the presence Norwell brought on the other side, that's a lot to expect an unproven RB to overcome.

I'm not saying CAP can't be part of the answer, but knowing what we've seen these last several years with just expecting things to work out a certain way, if you aren't even a little concerned about the run game then you must be lying to yourself.

The funny thing is, even with all the above about the decline of our OL, people have been clamoring for us to cut our starting center on top of it like that's going to be addition by subtraction. It seems like some fans never learn.

Maybe I have amnesia but I can't recall a single instance of him pushing a pile or breaking tackles or letting guys bounce off of him to the point you look at him and go "yeah that's a classic power back right there"

He would consistently get hit in the backfield and end up gaining 1 or 2 positive yards.

If he was going down on contact, he would have to be 9 to 12 feet tall for that to happen (falling forwards).  If memory serves, he ain't even sniffing 6 ft.

CAP had 95 yards on 18 carries in 2017, but with the way some here are misremembering that you would think he was a young Marshawn Lynch.

OH MY GOD.

Nobody has said he's Marshawn Lynch.  Anyone who's seen him flash only wants him to be given a legitimate opportunity.

Want to know where the fantasy and imagination is coming from?  I posted them in one of my posts above and this thread is already rife with them.  And, oddly enough and in direct contravention to what you're saying above, it ain't coming from the guys who just want CAP to be given a legit shot.

Artis-Payne got some opportunities last year, and was less than impressive to put it kindly.

Until proven otherwise, the run game is still quite suspect, even with CMC. And just mindlessly droning out the status quo about the answer already being on the roster doesn't instill much confidence in me for the upcoming season with Rivera at the helm.

Let's be honest, all of our runners last year were "less than impressive".
