Fowler asks if Cam's, Luke's and Kemba's best years being wasted.

I hate these types of questions and they are a bit insulting to the franchise.  The Panthers were in the Super Bowl two years ago.

Nobody saw that coming because of the deficiencies at WR and on the O-line. The truth of the matter is that we could have done better. in the end, it was the deficiencies that we thought that we had that bit us in the butt. And, honestly, it kind of feels like an anomaly, as look at what we did before that year and after that year.

I wouldnt say cam and luke were wasted. They went to a SB fairly early in their careers ( Cam was 26 and Luke was just 24) . Weve been in the playoffs 4 out of the last 5 seasons.

What is more accurate to say, is that the most certainly could have gotten to compete on better constructed teams if we drafted better and brought in better quality free agents. Could say the same thing with having a competent OC and a less conservative HC and owner stuck in the past .

Id say , its been impressive what they have accompished so far given the people that have surrounded them for most of their careers. They arent old either , right in their primes with Cam being 29 and Luke 27 this season. We have a new OC, Cam is healthy this offseason. Only thing I'm truly worried about is if the secondary will be good enough, its been our weak link the past 2 years.

so...unless you're on the Patriots, you're being wasted.  what a ridiculous statement.

Not exactly the the thesis here.

The point is that we could have, and probably should have done better. Not exactly sure why people can't see that, but sometimes people see what they want to see.

You could make that statement for at least 20 other teams .

If we even eek out a 9-7 season in 2018 , that would be huge in bucking the trend of no back to back winning seasons in franchise history.

Id say we still have a good 4 years to win a SB with Cam/Luke in their primes. And whose to say they cant win one past their prime?? Heavily depends on roster managment and coaching the new owner oversees in the first few years of his tenure here..

We're talking about apples and oranges here.  The Panthers have been to the playoffs 4 times during Cam and Luke's tenure.  They went to the Super Bowl and finished 17-2 one year.  This is in a league where only 6 teams make it from a conference of 16 teams, including only 2 wild cards.  The only "waste" is that they weren't able to win it all, but they certainly have had a great deal of success during that time.

The Hornets have only made the playoffs twice during Kenya's tenure and haven't made it to the second round yet in a conference where 8 teams make it in out of 15.  Of course, it's harder for the Hornets to have success than the Panthers based on the structure of both leagues, but the Hornets have "wasted" Kemba more.

I'd say never winning a Super Bowl with a MVP quarterback is a bigger waste than never getting past the second round with all-star point guard. Both are being squandered but Cam's talent relative to the rest of his league is much higher than Kemba's.

In 2010 we tanked the season by doing a couple of things that always seem to fail.  We forced a head coach to work out his last year and wouldn't let him give any assistants multi-year deals, and we were banking on a career backup and a rookie at QB.  Since then I can't think of a single season where the team did not make a genuine effort to upgrade, with the lone possibility of 2016 when we let Norman walk and entered the season with Mike Remmers at LT.

Their years are not being wasted, they're just not being successful enough.  Wasted implies a team in an active rebuild or otherwise ignoring problems with the team.

Before anyone says it, yes, I am being cynical...We have made token efforts at filling the hole at LT and WR. We always seem to place question marks where exclamation points are needed. Yeah, the Panthers need to take English class... Oh, fug! Wait...!
