first of all you all need to shut the fug up about TD and his salary.  He played way better (yes I said way better) than Shaq last year your short term memory mutha#$.

second..  Shaq is the legitimate replacement. However a some of you are trying to make it sound like it's obvious Shaq was better last year and that's not the case.  Probably not the case this year as well.

third.. TD brings on field intensity that fires up the defense. His lateral quickness is still top 12 in the league and his play recognition makes him faster than less experienced players. You gonna miss him when he's gone.

Probably of the same ilk that clamored about how we wouldn't miss Ginn last year.

Smart move to pick up the fifth year and then work on signing Shaq long term. He's got great physical ability and skills, plus he has learned from two legendary linebackers during his time here.

On TD's performance last year and the coming year: TD has certainly lost a step if compared to TD. Compared to TD. He still outplays two out of three LBs on any other 4-3 defense in the league and better than most of all three of many of the teams starting LBs. He still has the skills and the drive to play the position at a level that would make him a starter on any other team in the league. The guy lives the game and his instincts more than make up for any loss of step. His intimidation factor hasn't dropped a bit and let's face it, it is good to have a guy on your team that can make Jimmy Graham wet his pants twice a game.

Good move for the long-term and we're in for a great season from our LBs.

Maybe not fully fair to single out that play but man, if Shaq just wraps up Luke is right there behind him, that's not a TD, and Carolina gets the ball. Was a huge mistake.

Luke also had his share of bad tackles and mishaps last year as well, more than I've ever seen him.

i hate how quickly some Panther fans have given up on TD. He's slowed down and i think he knows it, but i believe he has one more useful season in him. and frankly if the Panthers had been less family-atmosphere oriented, they would have released TD after his 3rd injury. We never would have seen how great he became. He either would have retired or some other team would have got his greatness

The Panthers have always been a family like organization. Until that changes don't expect them to do what's best for the team. They don't cut players if they have been with them for a while. The good consistent teams cut players to save money and use it elsewhere. We are paying old washed up players that are way past their prime. That's the sad truth guys.

Im hope that all this changes with the new ownership. I dont give a damn about how close of a family they are. We pay money to see a good football team play and thats it.

Always has to be exceptions or you just turn into a heartless organization full of bandwagon fans.  TD has earned his spot, not just through what he does on the field but off as well.  And, he is still one of the hardest hitters on the team.

I think the best news for this Defense was wilks leaving.

Yeah that is definitely a change from the year before, but I can't help wondering if Luke is just more weary of taking hits now after the concussions, and I wouldn't blame him at all.
