One year on: Rating Christian McCaffrey

2017: 4/10; just looked pretty 1 dimensional and ineffective in the run game.  Was basically Cam's scapegoat.

2018: 3/10; If he's the feature back, I think we're going to be in big trouble with the departure of Norwell, R. Kalil's iffy status, and M. Kalil being a practice dummy.

He had over a 1,000 all purpose yards last year. I would say that merits about a 7/10.

With Norv around, I expect that number to increase. Giving him a shot at around and 8/10.

Man, I can't wait to see what Norv can do with this kid!!!!!!!!!

We need to bolster our run blocking or nobody will be successful. With decent blocking and about 15 carries per game I think cmc can get 80 receptions and a 1000 yards rushing. Maybe 1700 yards from scrimmage

Not going to try and place a grade on him but here’s how I feel so far.

He was a huge part of our offense last year. He’s such an easy dumpoff option for Cam and is great at getting  yards after the catch.

I am not impressed by his between the tackles running so far. He sure seemed to be able to absorb Shulas playbook quickly and could play multiple roles in it. I expect more of the same with Norv.

I’m more optimistic about him now than I was when we drafted him, however I do see a need to pair him with a more traditional back who can also catch as well.

CMC isn't a between the tackles runner and shouldn't get all the carries. He is more valuable to us as a slot receiver, check down guy and someone who can take a pitch and get around the corner. Running him up the middle was a waste of time particularly when Kalil was out. He needs to be a feature back but not to ground and pound. He is more of a juke and jam kind of guy.

I also think he is capable of contributing much more on Special Teams than he showed his rookie year.
