I don't care. The guy had 2 sacks last year. He hasn't played more than 12 games in a season since 2013. Let someone else have him. I don't want to waste any of our meager cap space on a player like this at a position that isn't of desperate need when we absolutely DO have positions of desperate need.

All I know is that NFL types think rather highly of the dude, and PFF graded him as a "high quality" player.

I don't give a poo how old he is if he can help this defense. At 32, I wouldn't expect to get more than two good years anyway (maybe three). I'm not going to quibble over lesser talent in other positions even if they are a desperate need. Arguably, we need a defensive end, and the draft doesn't look all that appealing at the position.

Were not running a youth movement

we are running a “we better win next season or else” movement

Edit:

Meant this season.

This is the question isn't it?

Are the Panthers all in this season or are they simply building for the future?

If I'm Hurney and Rivera I don't want my first season under new ownership to be my last.

This is no time to lay an egg.

Hopefully, if we are lucky, the draft will address two or three obvious areas of need, but with the team up against the cap how is it going to address the other areas?

I think Hurney still needs to cut loose/trade another aging, big money, fan favorite player to make the numbers work.

So he’s played far more than Ryan Kalil. Are you on the cut Kalil bandwagon?

I would be 100% fine with cutting Ryan Kalil for similar reasons. Missing 19 games over the last three seasons while being one of our most expensive players.

Regardless of that, how could you possibly characterize missing that much time and being 32 as being a good option? Unless he is dirt cheap, and even then I would question it.

As a fan I certainly don't want  them pretending we are in SB push this year. Clearly we aren't so why not be smart?

It is a good question.

If JR were to remain owner I think there is a good chance Hurney and Rivera might be more likely to embrace a youth movement and the losses that come with inexperience.

As it is, they may very well have a new boss in a few months that won't want to listen to Hurney's excuses as to why this team still doesn't have back to back winning seasons after 12 years on the job.
