Sorensen says we should sign Reid, and he's right.

I have zero interest in signing any player to make a political statement, a social statement, an artistic statement or a bank statement. And I'm not really interested in whether their ideas align with mine or not.

You sign players because you believe they will help you win games. There is no other valid reason to do so.

I guess some of you guys think that saying this will make it true.

Injury is a valid concern. The argument about him being "bad" and "not that good" simply doesn't hold water.

So the 49ers who know him the best, who badly need DB help, who also have more cap space than god, don’t want him. What does that tell you?

That the 49ers don’t want the press from him kneeling anymore, so they’re letting him go.

I could make the case that 4 of the top 10 overall players are DBs (Ward, James, Jackson, Fitzpatrick). So...no I’m not rushing to sign a guy with an injury history when one of these players could fall within reach (even if it requires a trade).

I didn't like how confrontational he was in the media. It didn't start or stop with a knee during the anthem. Blaming his political stance for unemployment when you look at his injury history seems a little opportunistic. If it was August and he had no job, maybe that is the time to talk about things like that.

He might have gotten offers and thought they were insulting. We don't know. I wouldn't be opposed to having him on our team but calling out the owners for not signing him after a few days of free agency is a major red flag. There are plenty of veteran players without teams right now.

“This is not a race issue” is exactly something a person who wants to make it a race issue would  say. You have ZERO authority to tell someone how to use their freedom of speech. Especially a NFL player who would kick your teeth in.

Well yeah, none of us have that authority. But ratings did drop. Interest in the NFL dropped and the league did start a dialogue (begged) the players to stop kneeling.

1st Amendment protects us from the Government. Other laws protect us from suffering violence or harassment from fellow citizens.

There are still consequences for saying things other people don't like. Whether it's down votes, being removed from your seats, or losing your job. There are always consequences for saying things that others do not like. How many people in the media have been fired for making a politically incorrect comment? If the owners don't want Erid Reid in their stadiums wearing their uniforms, they do have that choice. 1st Amendment isn't doing Kaepernick any favors right now.

Everyone knows these things.... they just pull out the first amendment card to defend a view they support and ignore the obvious.

If we did sign him I'd be fine with it. He is talented however I think he and a lot of other people are putting too much weight on the whole kneeling thing as to the reason he hasn't been signed yet. I mean look at how many other players that participated in the protests that have been signed or are still on a team. I put more weight on the theory that he has only played 12 games out of the last two seasons as to why teams are a little up in the air about him. Like I said, I wouldn't mind him on the team however I do think we might be better off signing a safety that doesn't have quite the injury record he does.

On a side note, I have noticed a few people saying to sign him despite the injury history that were also ones saying to cut Ryan Kalil because of his injury history as well.

Before we signed Jeremy Shockey I was like "man fug that washed up homophobe from the U, FSU for life"

After we signed him I was like "maybe his views have evolved. Who am I to judge? I've said some dumb things in my life"

Racists will get over it if we sign Reid and he plays well

It's obvious that  institutional racism is alive and well in America, as well as racism in general, but that doesn't make it right by any means.

And sure, some people may have decided to put the NFL down over the protests, but the fact is that the NFL's viewership was declining and/or flatlining well before those protests, so there are way more dynamics going on than just Kap and Reid taking a knee.
