If anything, this seems like Hurney and Co. realize that the corner and safety free agent market is scarce and that it would be easier to address the wide receiver position in free agency and then address corner, safety, guard/tackle, and tight end in the draft. Just in my opinion but it seems like we are playing the free agent markets as well as the strengths of the draft.

1. Funchess, 2. Hurns, 3. Wright, 4. Smith, 5. Byrd, 6. Samuel allows for the Panthers to wait a year to draft a wide receiver and address the more pressing needs up front.

I like this scenario. I can even live with giving CAP or Fozzy more of a chance if this is where we found ourselves. This also solidifies our WR for years to come. Allow the offense to relieve the pressures on our defense for a change.

Wright walks in the door better than Byrd...and i could be asleep and know that...

Ok better than Byrd but that does not mean he is not ready to be a starter..only issue is can he stay healthy.. that' y u are asleep. I.agree he is better but that does not mean Byrd is not ready to start. Health.is his issue.

Pro Football Focus wise (and yes their ratings are overblown on occasion), Hurns would instantly be our highest graded wide out.

Based off of last years stats, Hurns came in at an above average rating with a ranking as the #23 wide receiver in the league. The next closest on the Panthers current roster would be Funchess at an average rating with a ranking of #44.

With this in mind, last year Hurns goes for 3yrs/$18 mil, this year you could see him getting the 4/$40 that he initially signed with Jacksonville back in 2016.

Granted, I've mainly followed his career through fantasy football, but over their entire careers from 2014 to now, I feel like Hurns has low key been the most productive Jags WR. He blew up his rookie year and has had the goods regularly since then. I know he's been injured, but seems more consistently good than Robinson and Lee.

Excellent points. Best post so far on this thread.
