Diggs is now a slot receiver LOL

And the reason Wright is relegated to slot only is cause he’s that bad at playing on the outside

How many circles are you gonna jump through to keep making excuses for Wright’s lack of production.

Diggs was primarily a slot receiver until this past season and still takes plenty of snaps there yes.

Wright is not being asked to play on the outside here so I'm not sure what you're going after there.

I already said there is reason for concern, but this point you're trying to drive home isn't helping that case.

Godalmighty guys.  Wright is a 3rd down receiver, plain and simple.  He'll play more for us because our receivers are so bad, but it is what it is.  It's better than going after another project.

This guy does one thing very well.  He moves the chains, which is something we are bad at.  Torrey Smith is another incomplete player who does one thing very well.  He runs fast.  Use them on the right downs and you've basically got a complete player.  Think of it as a early down back and a 3rd down back.  Together they cover all 4 downs....

It's not perfect, but we will be much better than last year.

He's right.  Now Thielen has taken most of the slot work.  Wright is a situational 3rd down guy who's EXTREMELY good at what he does.  It's not about what Wright doesn't do well, it's about how the sum of the parts operates on the field.

The problem here is 2 fold..

1. You had high hopes of getting some number 1 WR this season.

Reality check.. The WR draft class is weak.  And 2nd 3rd and 4th teir WR are getting paid like they are Julio, or A Brown .. Sorry you can't see that this year was not a good year to get a number 1 wr.. We didn't have the money nor the trade asset to get the few guys who were maybe number 1... The rest who aren't number 1's are getting overpaid and the draft only has 1 sure fire guy who can be that.. Look at the situation and get over it..

2. You Don't realize how teams navigate and put a WR core together..  Especially when you Don't have a number 1 wr.. When you don't have a guy who is Julio or Brown .. You have to get a group together who can have similar production working together.. Now we have our number2 and big WR (funch) our deep threats (Smith and Byrd) our chain mover (Wright) and development project in (Samules).. Maybe we draft a WR later or we keep Clay as our Special teams guy... We don't have a number 1.. So putting a Corp together is the next best thing.. Sorry you can't comprehend this..

Exactly this.  Well done, sir.  The only thing I don't agree with is that Ridley (assume that's who you mean) will be a #1 in the NFL.  I just don't see it.  He has the wheels, but lacks size, strength, ability to get off press coverage, ability to make contested grabs.  He's going to get eaten alive by NFL corners.

Diggs has been playing outside these past two seasons, Theilen the same. Every WR plays that slot even Kelvin played in the slot, the slot is not some magical spot where only a certain WR can get snaps.

Its not about concern it’s about a fact and a trend, fact Wright is a mediocre unproductive WR. Trend the panthers continue year after year to bring these type of receivers, and year after year people hype on this forum hype them up.

Wright won’t do squat more than likely, so at the end of the day his signing isn’t of much significance, my gripe is that he might get more snaps than Samuel knowing are Rivera

That's how bad this WR's class is .. You're number 1 WR has question marks.. That's why teams are paying crack prices for Paul Richardson and Sammy Watkins..

No dumbass he is mediocre WR who fits a specific need for this team.. Ppl keep trying to tell your dumbass this.. Nobody is saying he is Antino Brown or Julio Jones..  He fits a need just like Smith .  When you don't have a number 1 all world WR you have to put parts together to make a comparable equivalent..

    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
