Hypothetical Question.. Secondary..

WOW!!

Recommended Posts

Let's say things stay the same as they are .. Maybe we sign 1 more secondary vet..

But we go into the draft needing a Safety and a CB who can start day one.. Who is your wish list  combo and what rounds.. Realisticly as possible please..

Example mine are..

Justin Reid 1st round

Isaiah Oliver 2nd round

Don't think Oliver makes it to the second round where the Panthers can draft him. Typically rated as 1st round prospect and 4th corner.

I like Hill in the 3rd though as a tall, lanky prospect for the Panthers scheme. Reid in the first would be a solid pick if there.

1st: Joshua Jackson - CB

2nd/3rd: Jessie Bates III - FS

I didn't think we had much of a chance at Jackson but he looked really raw in the on field drills at the combine. Teams that run a lot of man coverage probably dropped him down their boards but if we're going to go back to more of a cover 3 based scheme, Jackson's instincts and ball skills would fit us perfectly.

Meanwhile, our franchise QB in his prime gets beat to a pulp for another season throwing to a bunch of JAGs while being forced to be 98.5% of the offenses production. I realize we have huge needs in the secondary as it currently stands, but enough is enough with leaving Cam out to dry. He’s had a piss poor supporting cast outside of his rookie season. Lets hope Norv can scheme around the lack of talent currently on the offensive side of the ball. Long way to go in FA and the draft, but I’d rather have some weapons and protection up front for Cam and bank on outscoring teams than a bunch of promising rookies in the secondary that will likely have their share of hiccups regardless of talent.

We can't ignore that we had the worst secondary in the NFL last year.

I honestly think that Torrey Smith can basically be what Ginn was for us and that will really open things up for our offense. Especially CMC underneath.

Yeah I'll be shocked but thrilled if we could pull that off. And it depends on the new direction they go with guys with iffy pasts. Because Holton Hill is the josh gordon/randy Gregory of CBs.

Super talented but he failed more than his fair share of tests at Texas.

I hear and understand that loud and clear, but this team will continue to go as far as Cam takes it. Sign a vet corner, draft a safety in the first few rounds, and get Cam a big time guard/center prospect, another receiver, and another young back to compliment 22.

Dream scenario for me:

Round 1: OG/C/WR

Round 2: OG/C/WR (depending on round 1)

Round 3: S/RB

Round 3: S/RB

This is true but at this point and time a rookie safety will DEFINITELY start before any rookie Oline or wr we draft. And the hole at safety is the biggest one we have on the team

Bro we have ALOT of needs right now. Breeland really put us in a bad position.

We need G (NO AMINI) and the FO wont put Moton over there for some reason.

We need RB: Unless Cap has improved I just dont see CMAC carrying the ball 25 times a game at his size.

We need S: We released Coleman ...who is to play opposite Adams?

We need CB: Seymour was right on par with Worley ...and we didnt tender Gunter. Bradberry regressed sadly. We do have Corn coming back so there's that.

We need a WR: Samuel isn't going to be ready to start the season and even if he was can he be counted on for a full season (Byrd also). We currently have Funchess, Smith and Shep(smh).

We need back up QB.... no need to explain..

Back up TE ...look at last comment. Although we could do some hybrid packages with Armah but dont count it.

Now, we have 4 picks in the first 3 rounds ... in thoery we would have been in a great spot if Breeland would have worked out and we slid Moton into the LG spot.

We need to move a 4th or 5th .... for one of the first four positions of need. Free Agency is just beginning so by the next week or two @ this time this list could be minus a couple of spots...hopefully. + We have the draft and roster cuts from other teams coming up...no telling what our Roster will look like by Game 1.

I want to win games and I think at this point upgrading our starting CBs and FS are the biggest steps we need to take in order to put the best team on the field that we can. Ridley is probably the only WR I'd want in the 1st. I'd love to know what we think about St. Brown. He's really intriguing to me. I definitely think WR is and should be on the radar for us in the first three rounds.

    • Tua has maybe 2 passes further than 5 yards.
    • I'd give the rookie WR's more credit than that. Bryce did actually earn most his yards against the Chiefs, but that Saints game was all rookie WR's yac. It was probably like 80ish of the 170 total passing yards were yac by JT and Coker. The throws have been accurate though and he's obviously playing with more confidence. I still want to see something over 40 yards in the air at some point that looks good/accurate
    • We’ll agree to disagree.  Maybe change my wording to better roster would have been more accurate. Gamecocks have some nice defensive players….but they are also thinner than Clemson all around.  it’s at Clemson.  Dabo.  Better overall roster.  And they are favored slightly….which essentially supports my prior post that either could win but if you had to pick without a dog in the race Clemson is the smarter pick.   straight up vs Carolina? I trust Clemson’s O more than Carolina’s.    Top 10 vs top 60 with the QB edge.  And Clemson’s D has some real studs on it too.   Which is what Vegas says.   I’ll make my pick game day.  Will depend on who can and can’t suit up for Clemson.  Carolina has been much healthier this year.  But ST could be the difference.  That Louisville game exposed some massive flaws in their kick game.  You don’t really want ST weakness showing itself vs Beamer
