Secondary...

Plan is always the same here. Grab an UDFA or street FA and pray he becomes an all-pro. Carolina just doesn’t value the secondary players in any way at all. And considering the League is a pass-first league now, it won’t work. But don’t tell Hurney that. Not that he’d listen anyway. So the Panthers will trot out FA safety Jag LaNobody and some other lesser-known talents and the fans will wonder why Brees and Matty Ice get to carve up our team. It’s depressing.

That’s the opposite of the original plan. We just went out and attempted to spend big money on a secondary player.

We had Ken Lucas and Gamble then. The most recent first round CB (and 2nd of 2) and arguably one if our relativey higest profike FA acquisitions playing cb at tge same time.

Come on football historian.

lucas was a shell of himself by that point.

my view of this from the upper deck in BOA is still burned into my mind:

He said Fox didn't value CBs. The crux of his time here involved a significant investment in them.

EJ Gaines should be our guy with a smaller contract than Breeland had. He is a great zone corner and still young. Gaines Elder/Captain and Bradberry with another one in the 3rd or later and we will be fine. We still have Seymour for depth. First two rounds and other first can be used on Safety, Guard/center and WR or TE.

Fox employed the "left-right" corner scheme and stuck stubbornly to it even as the Cardinals allowed Larry Fitzgerald to basically choose his matchup.

Arizona had no other credible receiving threat for that game. Pretty much everybody expected Fox to put Gamble on Fitzgerald to lock him down. He refused.

Everybody remembers the result. Jake Delhomme certainly didn't help, but it was acknowledged that letting Fitzgerald move around without a shadow was a massive defensive blunder.

Rivera employs the same scheme, though he's probably at least a little more flexible than Fox was.

He is the next in line...

Wrong. I said Fox believed pass rush was more important than coverage. Rivera does too.

Coverage vs Pass Rush is a long running debate in defensive coaching. It's not easy to get high quality players on both ends so most teams prioritize one or the other.

There will probably be a very good CB prospect at number 24.

At this point I think you go S in free agency.

2nd round pick should be BPA out of S, DE, OL, WR, RB

Eric Reed please don't miss a good player the safety market should pick up since TM signed I hope.

Are you certain Gaines would settle for a smaller contract?

He's visiting the Cardinals right now, and I believe he has some other visits lined up as well.

Orlando Scandrick is now available. Can't say I know much about him but it seems like Cowboys fans are glad this move was done.

Kinda inconsistent. Can be decent, but nothing special. He is at least experienced though.

I'm iffy.
