Probably said something like "yeah I've got this cut but I played on it last year and it was no big deal".

Given that it wasn't an issue with the Redskins, he certainly had every reason to believe it wouldn't bother us either.

If you read the ESPN article he says the injury occurred when he was young and he has played all throughout high school, college and the pros with the very same injury that has required this very same treatment. This is something that doesn't seem like a secret at all or something he's afraid to talk about. No way he has played this long and it isn't common knowledge to anyone who may want to know. I wouldn't be shocked at all if its just buyer's remorse from Hurney and the FO.

His contract was great though.

Yeah Hurney fugged up...plain and simple.

Lol. Of all of Hurneys screw ups this one is in the bottom 10% unless your autocorrect turned Breeland into Hurney. Then yes, I agree, breeland fugged up.

But that's the thing.  He has played this long, and it wasn't an issue in any previous physicals he took.

I don't think you can logically blame Hurney or anyone with the Panthers.  Heck, even blaming someone from the Redskins would be a pretty big stretch.

There’s nobody to blame. He just failed the physical, and that’s it. It is what it is, and either all parties move on or we wait until he can pass a physical. Either way, everyone involved will be fine

Timing sucks though.

Nobody really to blame for that either, but yeah.

Well how the hell did he pass physicals if this was an old injury. Are physicals different from team to team? Isn't there a standard that must be met to pass or fail regardless. Sounds like Hurney had second thoughts and found a way out.

He reinjured it on the 4th and it got infected.

I agree.

It does suck, but these curveballs tend to happen at times. We’re going to see how much Hurney has grown. What he cannot do is overreact, panic, and throw a bad contract out there trying to fix the situation. We’re still in a good position, as our DL should be dominant this season. Spend that money wisely on decent S & CB help, while looking at prospects in the draft. This just slightly shifts how they’ll move in the draft.

Yeah, as I was typing that I was thinking it' probably more along the lines of your first paragraph...  I think we COULD hold onto him under the signed contract and designate him as PUP, but the issue is, if it is a pre-existing injury and it doesn' heal properly, we definitely don't want to risk it and be held responsible for the contract.

Oh well, maybe we can re-visit it once he's fully healed.

Seems like a sound theory to me.

Rivera's system doesn't put as much value on the secondary anyway.

That said, you still want somebody who can play back there.
