Greg Olsen Retiring for Broadcasting Job?

The potential is there. I think Funchess is a #1 WR. Byrd and or Samuel will stay healthy enough to be effective. Smith will make some big down field grabs. CMC picks up where he left off and we grab a fresh bruiser in the draft. This should be one of the fastest Panther offenses we’ve seen in a long time.

well, the OL is much weaker than prior Ron years.  Which is huge IMO when evaluating rosters.  Even if hype about WR potential I would say there have been prior seasons when the WR roster was also more complete/proven.

I think Fun Fun is a #2.   I like him.   But unless he takes steps to consistently play to his size he will always be a #2 role guy IMO.

Good for Greg. Older. Bad injury this year. Worries of CTE. Young family.

Panthers have had several years to prepare this and haven’t.   Same story different player

they best prepare for Newton too whose contract expires in 2020  he has taken quite a beating    Has a  young family     I’m sure plenty of teams would try and get him or he may have other interests

as we have just seen , QBs don’t grow on trees

Update on Greg Olsen interviewing for the ESPN MNF Analyst job in Bristol, Ct., today. Although team officials understand this to be exploratory, sources tell me that if Olsen is selected to replace Jon Gruden in the booth and he accepts it would be expected that he retire and take the job for this season.

Could be some mixed messages out there; possibly accidental, possibly not.

If I'm his agent, then even if it's true I'm sure as hell not going to want anybody to know he'd retire if he gets this. That'd create bad blood. Unless of course, this is a ploy for more money. Then I definitely want it out there.

Bottom Line: I really don't see us losing him, but it wouldn't surprise me to learn there's more to this story than what we're going to find out.

This is no surprise. He’s been auditioning on different shows to build his resume for the past 2/3 years.

I’m sure he’s had a game plan and road map with time lines planned out for a while.

I still think we get this year and maybe next out of him. (Not sure what his contract numbers are or for how long)

He's not getting the Monday Night job, but if he did can't really blame him for taking it.  It's one of the biggest broadcasting jobs out there for a guy who clearly wants to do that after he retires.  Not every day that job opens up and he always has seemed like the kind of guy who has the mentality to get out early.

Agreed. I think he had every intention of playing some more and going into broadcasting after and the opportunity just presented itself early. Best case scenario for everyone is if they bring him on in a trial capacity next season with the understanding that he gets the full gig after. I'm not sure ESPN is willing to wait though.

"Hello, Chargers? Panthers here. Listen, we meant to take Hunter Henry a couple years ago. Our bad. We are sending Vernon Butler your way. Thank you for your attention in this matter."

I'd do it but since they need him to replace their HoF TE I doubt they would.
