We we all watched the lions game this year, he was inconsistent at best. Dropped a game changing "layup" touchdown. 

 

They clearly didn't see him as a franchise player nor do I think anyone else does. He wasn't going to be very willing to work out a team friendly extension with $8.2M guaranteed coming his way next season.

Look to be honest... I think everyone would be excited to see Ebron in a panthers uniform including myself. 

IMO and that's all it is, we desperately need blockers in our offense, that's why I believe Wilson might fit the bill. I am all for Ebron signing with us.

I'm honestly not sure what to expect out of our #2 TE this year. The position was used primarily as a blocker under Shula, but not sure what Norv Turner might cook up. If we're looking for a solid #2, Wilson is likely the safer bet. But if we're looking at Ebron, I think we may have bigger plans for that position and might even be hoping to luck into Olsen's successor.

Definitely understand where you are coming from. The sky is the limit with Ebron and I think Olsen could help him progress to a different level. 

I think Ebron is still going to command a decent contract which is why he is meeting with the colts and patriots as well. Which might put us out of the running.

Ebron for the right price.  He does have issues with little injuries.  Sprained ankles and such.  But he got a bad deal in Detroit for a couple years.  The had him blocking more due to the poor OL play.  If he could learn under Greg we could have the TE of the future. It’s so hard to draft and develop TE’s.  I would rather keep those future picks for other needs than TE.  I may be wrong but the bust rates of TE’s seems high.

Colts and Patriots are also interested in bringing him in for a visit. A lot depends on what happens with Ed Dickson. If Ed signs with Seattle tomorrow, Marty might be more inclined to offer Eric a little more $

Top 10 pick who's performed like a 2nd or 3rd rounder.... Every fan of any team would hate a player who fits that bill. Ebron not only has insane potential and is only 24 but actually has performed well enough to be an upgrade on Dickson and a top #2 TE, but with the added possibility that he can actually turn into Olsen's eventual replacement. Willson is just as poor of a blocker and less of a receiving threat and is older with no upside. All it would come down to between the two is cost and we'll have to weigh that but Ebron is a significantly better option.
