Wilson or Ebron? Who would you rather have?

It's a classic case of risk/reward. Willson has a much lower ceiling, but we know what we'd be getting with him. Ebron has a MUCH higher ceiling, but also a much higher chance of being a bust signing.

I'd be fine with either of them as long as the money isn't crazy. Ebron as the #2 to Greg Olsen for a couple years might be just what he needs to reach his potential, in which case we'd have Olsen's successor already on the roster when Greg retires.

Willson isn't that long-term option, but he also carries less risk and is a very capable player who would give us a great 2 TE set.

I might slightly lean Ebron, but it's basically a toss-up for me.

Ebron is really the best decision, higher upside and may be able to replicate some of the things Greg can do in the passing game. Especially in the red zone. The biggest edge to Ebron is actually that he was cut, so he wouldn't go against the comp pick formula. The real question is assuming Dixon gets signed by someone other than Carolina. Would you rather

A. Ebron and a 3rd

B. Wilson and zero comp pick

It is a no brainier for me even if you have to pay Ebron more.

Ebron

no reason to play conservative and "safe"

this is likely our last shot as a core and as a team before the new ownership comes in who may clean house if we have an average season

enough conservative and safe crap

go get Ebron and hope he explodes here

I don’t see why so many hate Ebron, he could end up being a great player for us.

he has all the physical tools to be a an eliete TE. He is young and has put up good numbers in Detroit. His major problem from what I am hearing is his attitude but you have to realize he is only 24 and he could end up maturing. Being cut may open his eyes. We also need a future replacement for Olsen and Ebron being as young as he is could be that guy if he can mature. I don’t know how well he blocks but remember Olsen wasn’t a good blocker but he improved over the years.

wilson has no potential. He is a blocking TE only. At least we will improve the TE position signing Ebron, Wilson however will not be an upgrade except for blocking.

Stats for both.

One was a top ten pick. Played in a pass happy offense and had arguably a top 5 QB.

The other one played in a similar offense as our Panthers where the run was the emphasis and had a lot of play action and bootlegs. He was required to block in several schemes and for some odd reason had amazing games against us. Oh and he was a fifth round pick.

At this point. I am looking for stability. Potential is great but after a while potential is gone and all you have left are what ifs.

Wilson is a solid #2 and would actually be used a lot more than Dickson in my eyes.

Ebron has had years to prove he can become something special. He hasn't.

Ebron's potential would be exciting, but I don't know what we would magically do to unlock it unless Olsen worked some voodoo on him.  I mean literally this year, Lions fans sarcastically cheered simply because he caught the ball.  Same issues that he had in college, will make an insanely athletic and difficult catch, only to drop the pass that hits him in the chest.

Wiilson is the safe pick, and cheaper I think...so for immediate success I'm going with him.

I look at it this way. Wilson is a #2 TE. If Olsen ages rapidly or retires, we’re immediately looking for another #1TE. How long has it taken for us to Really invest in a major #2TE? The idea that in Ebron we MAY have the replacement #1 on the team already at 24 yrs old?

Bruh, come on.... no brainer. We could go get a Luke Wilson in the draft, but we save a pick now and in the future potentially with Ebron.

So everyone on this board gives Funchess a pass because he’s still young and “he’s the same age as some rookies and he has experience” BUTTTTT are going to write off Ebron who is 1 year older????

Give me Ebron all day long.

Detroit always has nothing but weapons so Ebron’s stats are going to suffer because of it. With that said his yardage totals really aren’t that bad. Similar to Funchess’ yardage totals in his first 3 years and Funchess was our number 1 this year.

Id be pretty pumped if we signed EE
