Unless the agent hears about the offer and specifically asks to be released instead of traded because his client doesn't want to play for the team who made the offer, or because he knows he can get his client more money as a free agent....and the GM is attempting to build good will with that particular agent, so he foregoes a nothing pick knowing news of the trade offer wouldn't be made public, so nothing to lose and a good relationship with an agent to gain.
