I wonder if we aren't going to waste Munnerlyn already? Seemed like he really fell out of favor with the coaching staff last season. IMO, that just increases Mathieu's value to us. We already like playing LBs and safeties at that "buffalo nickel" position. We said the addition of Shaq would allow us to stay in our base D more often but we all saw how that played out. Maybe the addition of Matheiu actually would allow that. We'd already have a safety on the field who can drop down as a nickel CB depending on matchups.

Yea.  I mean, I'd still love Mathieu.  He'd be an amazing fit on this team.  However I can understand why the team probably would be reluctant to pay him as much as other teams.  A true free safety would still be a need.

And there are still some safeties available.  Reid (although I don't see any team signing him unfortunately), Burnett, Boston, Mitchell, etc.  I think the Rivera-era has shown we don't need to spend big bucks on a safety to get effective enough play, assuming they aren't Haruki bad.  They just have to have enough talent and IQ to do what we ask of them.

You realize outside KK, and if you consider Addison's contract large we don't have a lot of money assigned to the DL....

We have a 10+ sack DE in Peppers for $5mil...

That salary is what allows us to upgrade the hole left by Start, and having Moton a 2nd Rd freaking pick eases the loss of Norwell.

Some of you guys over-complicate this so much, we are in pretty good shape excluding Safety depth.

Unfortunately when all is said and done i think we get Boston for like 3 mil a year on 3 years. If he plays at the level he did last year then it'll be a good move. San Diego was able to get tremendous pressure on defense which i think helped him tons.

Would not be opposed to that

That would solid, although I might prefer Mitchell.  Not sure if I can handle Boston's tackling for another year.

This is a good draft for safeties though.  Super unlikely we'll be in a position to get Fitzpatrick or Adams, but I like Harrison and Reid a lot.  I'd LOVE Harrison, but I think Reid might be a better fit for our defense.  I've always wanted a big safety like Harrison on our defense.

Not a bad player. 9 million a year is a decent hit.

Might be time to say goodbye to the Crabtree rumors.

I wonder if any of the GREAT JOB HURNDAWG people here can be cross-referenced to the same people who, after the Falcons signed him last year, were saying HE'S DONE HIS NUMBERS ARE TRENDING DOWN FAIL-CONS GOT ROBBED HAW HAW HAW!

Me, I was a member of the 2nd group.  I thought the numbers were trending down on this guy and I think his performance with Atlanta last year was underwhelming and I think I'm giving him more credit than he deserves saying that.

And this guy at $9M per year?  Holy poo, what a dumpster fire.

Signing Luke Wilson might make me feel a little better about this burning garbage thus far, so fingers crossed.

He's underachieved at times in his career, but considering we lost Star, and Poe is younger and a little cheaper, I don't understand your flailing around here. It's a solid move.

I posted earlier PFT had him as a top 35 defensive lineman and Star didn't crack top 100. Star technically had really fallen off. I'd still taken honey badger for this much over Poe, but that front four we could just run a 4-4 and be fine. everything's fine (safety position on fire). it's fine.

You have to wonder if Washington thinks he can get everything out of Poe.

I'm more than a little surprised, especially considering the contract.  Hope we can get something out of him for sure.  He had some decent years in KC (I think), but was pretty underwhelming in ATL.

But he is one of those "planet guys."  Only so many people at his size and athleticism.
