Hitting up Costa Rica next week

Any of y'all been to Costa Rica? Going with my girlfriend next week. Flying into Liberia on Southwest, got a great deal on flights - so easy to go to the Caribbean and Central America from Texas. We're staying near Tamarindo in an Air BnB. Got a whole house to ourselves for a week with a washer and dryer and full kitchen - only $500 for a week! I think we spent less than $1000 on the whole lodging and flights. We're renting a car for the week for about $350 though, and that's expensive because of the insurance they make you buy with it. Going on some excursions and catamaran cruises and etc. Anyone been out here? Seems amazing from everything I've researched!

You will have a blast! Been a few years, and we stayed up in the "mountains" and the roads were pretty sketchy getting up there, but it was incredibly relaxing and serene. We were closer to the east coast and, much like other Latin American countries, there are the nuances, customs and cultural differences from one geographic area to the next.

Tamarindo is one of the best surfing spots in Central/Latin America with a very consistent break- you should take advantage of that.

Heading home today, great trip! Highly recommend Costa Rica.

You’re so right about the roads being sketchy! We did some exploring to an adventure park and to some of the beaches around Las Catalinas. Luckily we had a little Daihatsu 4x4 that handled driving on dirt, rocks, sand, rivers...it was an adventure driving on those back roads, but I’m excited to get home just so I can drive on paved roads again!
